I know one of them is Willie Norwood. I can't remember who the other is.

Peter Gent
Don Meredith
Nolan Ryan
Jose Cruz
David Robinson
John Lucas

I got all the sports ones at a trade show in 1993..it was cool cos I was 15, and still sports editor at my school paper...

Books, I think are different. I would get just about any author I admire's graph on a book they wrote.

Steve Earle, is on my CD case to "Train A Comin" and we only talked about The Wire..how cool is that? Plus, it was in a living room, so I kinda figured I wasn't putting him out much.

I've been thisclose to Dr. Jay at Quiznos in Orlando, and Ho Grant, too, but w/o a program or pennat or something, I ain't gettin' someone's autograph on a fucking napkin.

and I collect "stuff I find interesting" none of which is memorabilia

I've got a few scientific autographs that wouldn't mean dick to most, books mostly.

My favourite 'music' autograph, which I may have mentioned before, is getting Billy Ray Cyrus to sign my Player's Light pack at a Tim Horton's in Sudbury ON at 4am.

It just seemed...right.

Don't collect 'em, yet I seem to have a bunch now that I think about it.

Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding on an Oranges and Lemons cover slick

Michael Palin and Katherine Helmond on a Time Bandits script

From Tower Records NYC signings back in my early '80s college days:
Laurie Anderson on Big Science
Adrian Belew on Twang Bar King
David Byrne and Robert Rauschenberg on the Rauschenberg-designed special edition cover of Speaking in Tongues

A coworker who knew of my erotic proclivities got me a Dan Haggerty autographed 8x10. He signed it and drew a little bear paw.

This one will mean nothing to most: Terrence Malick autographed my Days of Heaven laserdisc.

Somewhere in my belongings, I have autographs of Dennis Wilson and the Bay City Rollers. In the past couple of years, most of the bands I see autograph a CD cover or a poster of theirs.

About 10 years ago in a little bar/restaurant in my hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana and the debate was raging about whether the man having dinner in the other room was, in fact, EvelfuckingKnievel. After a couple of beers, I was voted the man most likely not to be bitch slapped by "The Legend" for disturbing him during dinner.

So, with the inspired confidence of my drinking companions, I walk into the other room and head directly for his table.

ME: "sir, i'm terribly sorry to disturb your dinner, but, if you are, in fact, evelfuckingknievel, would you please sign this so that i can bring it back into the bar and prove to my friends that you are, in fact, "The Legend" and thereby insure the peaceful enjoyment of the rest of your evening in our fair city."

THE LEGEND: "Sure thing kid. I am Evel Knievel and I'll be happy to sign this for you if you guys will let me enjoy my dinner."

ME: "thank you sir. by the way, what brings you to Lafayette?"

THE LEGEND: "Golf. Have a nice evening."

ME: "thank you again, sir - i'm a lifelong fan. good night and all apologies for the interruption."

. . .and that is the story of the only autograph i have ever asked for and the only autograph i will ever ask for unless i have a kid and he has a hero like EvelfuckingKnievel.

Up against the likes of Denver Pyle and Keenan Wynn, Ol' Dan was the studboy of Grizzly Adams all right.

I was just a kid, but I wanted William Shatner's autograph at some auto show he was appearing at. Something got screwed up with the time schedule so he just had enough time to shake hands with people. Yes, I shook hands with William Shatner once. He was short.

Overall, I don't really get the autograph thing. I've actually sold a few things of mine that I got signed by the artists . . . that's how little I care. Really, if anything, were I to run into one of my "musical heroes," I'd really rather be given a chance to thank them for making all this great music that has made my life so good. No, seriously.

Yes, I am a geek-While at a Star Trek convention about 20 years ago there was a long line to get Nichelle Nichols'(Uhura) autograph and she was so pissed at Shatner that she wouldn't sign any photos that had him in the picture also-Yes, I am a geek.

I collect pennies. You know, different dates and mints.
I started it when I was a kid because it was cheap. I continue it now, because it is cheap.
