Panera's is about the best you can get in Buffalo. Tim Horton's bagels blow.

You guys don't have local bakeries that sell/make bagels? I live in a deepest suburban food dessert and there's still a decent bakery.

Duuuuude, you ain't old enough to go in Bob Evans. Hell, I ain't old enough. And, coming from someone who clearly knows good food, I'm shocked. B. Evans is some seriously nasty shit.

I love good food, and i like some seriously nasty shit as well. My wife is disgusted with my love of McDonald's Filet o Fish. I sneak one once or twice a year when i happen to have cash on me, which is rare.

I went to college in cleveland, bunch of friends would go to bob evans, drink lots of coffee and hot chocolate, eat a sunshine skillet, and hit on brandi the cute waitress and her friends.

It's more memories than anything.

Like i miss White Castle. It's not good, but it's a reminder of home. If i left Texas, i'd miss Whataburger and republicans who dislike Thomas Jefferson enough to remove him from curriculum because he's credited with the phrase "separation of church and state". I'd totally miss those guys. Where'd those loonies go?

Good points, all, sir. It's just the thought of that "sausage gravy and biscuits" that really turns my gut inside out. But I like Chef Boyardee mini-raviolis.

RE: White Castle- we have Krystal (White Castle knock-off), haven't had one in years, though. Long time ago, there was a knock-off of Krystal here called Milligan's. Now, I'm not sure how you could get more elemental (and potentially lethal) than a knock-off of a knock-off. About the only place open 24 hours back then, so we'd go through the drive-through of the closest one about 3 AM, heavily under the influence of whatever was available. The person who was always at the drive-through window was a mid-50's semi-humanoid female, with sweat and rancid grease dripping from every place visible through the window, name was Sally, and she knew us on site. We called the burgers she dished out Arm Pit Burgers. Good times.

Oh man, if I had a nickel for all the late night Krystal's I've consumed, I'd be Bill Gates..

There's a new bagel joint down here in south Austin (Wholy Bagel, William Cannon & Mopac) that's pretty good. Dude is from New York or New Jersey, and he does a few bialys too. Rockstar is okay, but they are too dense for my taste.

I haven't had an Einstein in forever, and I won't go to Panera.

Yeah, my love for a McDonald's Double Cheeseburger is nigh inexplicable.

And tentoze, you should know Bob Evans is sorta the midwest Waffle House. It's not exactly haute cuisine, but if you came up on it, it makes sense.

I had a good pot roast there the only time I went to one (with now Congressgar/Senate candidate from Indiana)

Chive cream cheese and (Nova) lox on an egg bagel from New York Bagel & Bialy in Lincolnwood.
If it's fresh, there's no need to toast the bagel.

Although, as far as chains go, Brugger's is pretty solid.

I am by no means a John Mackey-styled healthy foods Nazi, but they make relatively simple things like Turkey sandwiches into fast food-style calorie bombs. I don't hate it, I just don't go there anymore. It reminds me of Chipotle in an overdone, McDonaldized way.

everything bagel, lox, cream cheese, tomato slice, red onion slice, capers = money.

there are a couple decent places here, the best being Big Daddy Bagels where they actually boil the bagels. i don't think many places do that anymore. Moe's is decent too. Their jalapeno cream cheese is awesome.

my favorite place though is in college park, maryland. The Bagel Place i believe. They had one called The Terrapin, which was shmeared with plain cream cheese and then add a slice of cheddar on top, throw it in the oven until the cheddar is bubbly and browned nicely.
