Quote:
Ryan Adams has released a "fully-realised sci-fi metal concept album," called 'Orion,' that will only find a physical release on that cutting-edge format known as vinyl.

Titles such as 'Imminent Galactic War,' 'Ghorgon, Master Of War' and 'Victims of the Ice Brigade' suggest a stark change in subject matter for the solo artist previously connected to the alternative country scene.

Recorded in 2006, the album is produced by long-term associate Jamie Candiloro, who is also credited as playing drums and synths. He produced Adams's 'Easy Tiger' album with previous band the Cardinals.

'Orion' is being released in unspecified numbers on clear vinyl -- "this is an extremely limited pressing. You've been warned," a statement on Adams's website read. The package comes with access to a digital version and artwork by Michel Langevin, a founder member of Canadian rockers Voivod. He is largely credited with devising the post-apocalyptic mythos that haunts their music.

This is Adams's first full-length release since splitting from the Cardinals in March 2009, when the prolific artist announced he was taking a break from music following his marriage to Mandy Moore. It is released on the artist's own Pax-Am label, which he revived last year.

The definition of "shame" should be etched on a machete and used to hack this douche into pieces.

Cold Roses is probably the best thing he's ever done.

That Mandy Moore-Andy Roderick split sure worked out for both. She married Ryan Adams, he married Brooklyn Decker. Sure, A-Rod gets the edge, but it's not like either fall off a cliff into a Jodie Sweetin Pit of Despair.

You might like the Shooter Jennings & Hierophant's album "Black Ribbons"

Yeah, it's not even an argument. And the guy is still putting on really good live shows.

This, on the other hand, I have no interest in.

That's not really sci-fi metal. It's pretty fucking weird though.

Um... Heartbreaker, anyone?

(Though Cold Roses is a close second, especially compared to the rest of his output so far)...

...and, FYI - tried to order this less than a day after it was announced, and it was already sold out.

I wouldn't even put Heartbreaker in the Top 5.

At this point, I think all I need is Love is Hell, Gold and Cold Roses.

I agree this is vastly underrated. I'd probably have it as high as 3.

TRUTH

i can't think of any other artist who i'm pretty much ambivalent about their entire output with the exception of one incredible album.
