The first images of the proposed costume leaked:

At first I really hated this, but I'm kinda digging it now.

Looks pretty good.

As long as that's not supposed to be the WWII-era version.

Yeah, thats what I was wondering, but then again there is supposed to be that whole "stuck in ice" storyline that brings it to modern day, so who knows. That was supposed to be at the end of Iron Man, but then the Avengers/Thor/etc got pushed back, so then people got their hopes up for IM2 to reveal this, but once again timetable issues. Maybe with Thor, since Cap is now cast? They just need to not screw this up.

I think it'll be a minor miracle if Thor and Avengers are pulled off anywhere near as well as Iron Man or even the fist two Spider-Man movies. Same for Captain America. I think Iron Man and Spider-Man both lent themselves to cool origin-story movies, but Thor and Capt. America seem like they'd be a lot trickier. And of course the success of Avengers is going to depend a lot on those two plus a lot of other factors which I'm sure are still fairly up in the air. It's a pretty ambitious project, though, and I can't pretend like I'm not excited to see them attempt it. No way is it going to be done by 2012, either.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the Thor movie is even halfway decent, but I suppose it's possible especially if they take from The Ultimates and/or the recent Marvel U relaunch. I think it'd be a lot of fun to see either approach, but something tells me it won't take much from either of those.

Agreed on all accounts. Thor is going to be probably the hardest to pull off, though I am psyched to see if they do the main villain like the maquette mock-up. Thing looks like an early era Spawn villain, with spikes all over.

No way Avengers is done by 2012. We'll be lucky if Cap makes 2012. If they do Cap fighting Nazis then it could be pretty cool. But if they do the presto-chango whoops we're in the present day thing, I'd be disappointed. These are like the Hulk films...cool characters, but hard to get an origin and decent story to the screen.

i like the costume for the most part. i wish the helmet was a little more pronounced and it looks kind of dopey from straight on but it's a minor quibble.

i think they'll both be pretty decent. i'm hoping branagh doesn't pull an ang lee. thor is probably a harder sell than cap though. johnston i'm a little more worried about but it's gonna be a summertime popcorn movie so whatever.

what's up with stringer bell as heimdall tho?

Yeah, I was wondering about this, too. Can you post a pic, FR?

To me "early era Spawn villain" does not sound like a good thing, but we'll see. Of course Loki's the real villain, but I guess there have to be monsters of some kind. And Agent Smith/Elrond as Loki looks like a good choice.

the pic has been taken down--but the pic from the comic remains, and suffice to say, it was VERY close to the comic.

It looked like this also, but more muscular, and less "plump". Also, the spikes were more defined.

Nice dredging! Paramount is trying to keep it under wraps apparently. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cap costume gets taken down tonight or tomorrow.

Oh, OK. That thing. Yeah, that's cool. I was picturing something like The Violator based on your description, and I was worried.

Ah, sorry. I was thinking like The Redeemer or something.

That pic, though is a newer version--I think.

Chris Evans...who also played the Human Torch in the Fantastic 4 movies.

Oh shit, I didn't realize that's who that was. That kinda sucks.

You know, when I fist saw the picture of that costume (with the face in profile), I thought it looked kinda like James Van Der Beek. That would be... I dunno.

Speaking of The Avengers...

http://www.imdb.com/news/ni2716380/

Quote:
Jeremy Renner Near Deal to Play Hawkeye in The Avengers
When it comes to Marvel casting this week, we’re getting incrementally closer to the real thing. The Josh Holloway item was just a rumor. Neil McDonough is “in talks” to play Dum Dum Dugan. But Jeremy Renner has been talking to Marvel about playing Clint Barton for some time, and now the actor is in “final negotiations” to join The Avengers as Hawkeye.

Renner’s star rose considerably over the last year after his Oscar-nominated turn in The Hurt Locker, which opened up such opportunities as Peter Berg’s adaptation of Battleship and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled opus on religion. Renner seems to have passed on Battleship, and the Anderson film could take awhile to come together, so the actor remains a free agent ready to don Hawkeye’s purple bow. The ensemble cast required for The Avengers, which Joss Whedon (Firefly) will direct, is approaching completion. There’s Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man (of course), Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johanssen as Black Widow, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. (Of course, the big missing piece is Hulk — no deal has been made with Edward Norton to reprise his role from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.) Heat Vision reports that, to keep the budget under control, Marvel has talked all the featured players into a paycut.

This is all shaping up pretty fantastically. Renner is a great get, and if there is any legitimacy to the Josh Holloway rumor (as Ant-Man, perhaps?)… I would apparently be at a loss for words.

I'm kinda partial to Thor, but that's mainly because it's my middle name. Maybe the movie will make people even more amazed then they already are when they find out.
