and btw...this album rules...holy shit, puts the national record in a corner and kicks the shit out of it.

also manages to make Neon Bible sound bad (and I love that album too)

could it be when a label balks at releasing an album, there might be a good reason?

they sent me an email earlier today requesting to put some of my mixes up. supposedly they get bombarded with mixes, but dig the ones i put up on my site. a few of the folks from that site follow Jukeboxer. they have 24,000+ users a day, so I'm all for it. i was honored to say the least.

i've got some really cool guest mixes from some artists you might be familiar with coming up soon. :D

The Blanche Hudson Weekend
Code:
http://magiska.vlsweb.net.br/?p=11315

scrolling through Magiska and the cover drew my attention......the 3 ep's blow me away and have a great shot of being in my top 5 for the year...not too surprising considering that the Raveonettes were my #1 of 09...not tooooo different...

Quote:
A little different post. The Blanche Hudson just released their new EP, Hate is a Loaded Gun. Instead of just posting the new EP, I compiled all 3 EP’s (fulltext posted the second EP on another post) from this year into a nice tidy package. I really dig The Blanche Hudson. One part 60′s girls group, one part My Bloody Valentine and one part Jesus and Mary Chain makes for a fun listening experience!

Hate is A Loaded Gun (2010) – The covers for this band’s stuff always kinda reminds me of The Smiths’ covers and the sound they conjure on the first track here could be described as sounding something vaguely like them, only crossed with classic girl groups and lo-fi’d to the max. The distant female vocals get our full attention on the bleak Marble Index/Desertshore/The End-era Nico job of ‘So Sick’, built on accordion sounds and lacking any guitars whatsoever. On the flip you got’s yer ‘Song For Kristen’ which takes Nico back to The Velvets for one more go around. A tidy single which is far rangier than the other of the band’s releases I’ve heard.

The Rats in the Cellar EP (2010) – This sounds like forgotten American indie-poppers Toothpaste 2000 or their predecessors Cowboy and Spingirl. An odd duo who mixed up Big Star style melodies with breathy female vocals and an endearing inability to play anything in time. This has a similarly garagey laid back 60′s type sound which is recorded with a gentle hand on the board by Random Number’s Matt Robson. It is kind of semi-live which really suits it. Like a lot of the other releases this week it recalls a lot of those ’80′s bands that looked back to the girl groups from the 60′s for inspiration. There’s lots of nods to Galaxie 500 and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Oh and this is from those folks that brought you The Manhattan Love Suicides. Very impressive.

Letters to Daddy EP (2010) – New thing on Squirrel = The Blanche Hudson Weekend (apparently featuring ex-members of The Manhattan Love Suicides). Hey they’re using ‘Be My Baby’ style drums, I couldn’t have guessed that’d be the case before I’d even put it on. If you’re gonna do it at least have Bobby Gillespie playing it stood up, looking like a bit of a plank. I’m sure you all know what you’re getting with Squirrel by now and whether you’re into it or not.. Doo-wop, lo-fi, Velvets, JAMC, Spector, all that stuff. ‘Crying Shame’ is as good an example of what they do as I’ve heard though. On the B-side you’ve got one that’s a stormier shoegazier wall of sound and another that amps it up a notch further. Fans’ll dig it the Letters To Daddy EP

It's a straight up double. Of course, I automatically pre-ordered it without hearing a note.
