Has anyone ever hired a moving company and NOT felt like they were volunteering to be treated like the smallest dude on the cellblock? Even with recommendations from friends, this whole process gives me shivers.

We've had ok luck, both when Femgar moved from ATL, and when we moved from our rental to our current crib, but I know what you mean -- everything you own is in the hands of a crew of people who do things like label the box for your computer "COMPUGER" - that actually happened to my dad.

I deal with movers virtually every day of my life and can confirm that they are all scum--even the ones I like personally (and who I regularly recommend to my clients) are subhuman filth.

Pretty much. I was lucky on my move from MI when I went w/ Mayflower (who farmed out to a distro company, who... you get the idea) and the end company I got did a fine job. And truth be told it was cheaper than I had expected. But the whole process is nerve-wracking no matter what. It's just, my shit is "my shit" and all that. But I've had three friends rave about a local company that has a discount through my new complex, so I think we going with that. 34 more days...

Just came from Busty's place in Milwaukee, which was being packed up and moved professionally while we were there. Bad visit timing, but whaddya gonna do. His shit was going to 2 different places (apt or storage) so he had to be there most of the day(s) to answer questions, so we sat around drinking beer and watched guys load all his shit into boxes one day, then carry it all out the next. I felt so incredibly fucking lazy, and really for no reason.

Then I continued to drink beer and do fuckall while he cleaned up.

Thursday I find out if I get the raise I asked for. We were given a raise in June but I went in and asked for more. Been kinda jerked around since. My first meeting with our VP was almost four weeks ago, didn't hear from him for two weeks. Called and left a message, 'nother week went by, called again and finally heard back. Then another week went by before he set up this Thursday meeting.

I have no idea what to expect.

Thanks! I lucked out by not getting more than a few small drops on the camera. The rest of me got pretty soaked, though.

Princeton Review releases the top party schools for 2010-2011:

14) Sewanee - The University of the South

This surprises me. My grandfather used to be a professor there, and is now retired, so growing up I probably spent around at least a month every year in Sewanee. It is one of the most boring places in the world. I always went there for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and a week or two in the summer, so I was always there when all the students were gone. I'm not sure that there is even a proper bar in the entire town.

Maybe next time I visit my grandparents I need to walk around the campus a bit more and meet some students.

Despite all of the controversy/shitty things about it. Facebook can be pretty amazing. I just got in touch with my best friend from 5th grade, who I haven't seen nor heard from since 5th grade, when he and his family moved away.
I sent him a note, he sent me his cell phone number, and we had a nice 15-min. phone conversation and started to catch up.
I think that we're gonna keep in-touch now. Fucking crazy and cool.

Well that's not really the controversy around privacy. That pertains to how much of your information Facebook has made public without any kind of notice after various updates over the past couple of years.

I realize you're kidding but I think he's referring to the Security company that recently ran a program that compiled over 170 million users public info and put in online. Not exactly cybercrime but in the wrong hands that info could be used in all sorts of ways. At the very least it has made Facebook a giant marketing database for possible future "personalized marketing". It's not a huge deal but many feel that it's at the very least a tad unethical for a "private" social networking site.

As of late, over 65 corporations had downloaded this list of users so it tells me that even if they don't know what to do with it, they want the info for possible future use.

I saw this last night. Don't confuse this statement with an endorsement of Wyclef Jean but I think dude is overqualified. Haiti should be ruled by one of my daughter's stuffed animals.
