Those are pretty cool. Couple things that sprang to mind:

1) Crazy to see the one town and then NOTHING outside of it. The automobile had still not made it to those parts yet. It's totally secluded and self reliant.

2) The one town that is now in Turkey, I bet doesn't look much different.

3) The one with the lady on the Sim River. I couldn't help but think that today somewhere along that river some Russian teenagers are getting shitfaced and trying to finger bang their girlfriends. Ahhhh progress.

i kept looking for a picture of dumpjack somewhere in those pictures...peering out from behind a doorway or lying in a riverbed...something.

These are great. I would think most people of my generation think of these eras as being drab and colorless... because all of the photos we have seen are taken with rudimentary B&W photography. It isn't fair to those eras... and logically I always knew that there was colors there... but seeing photography like this really makes it feel more real and immediate.
