Unfortunately they beat Hawaii on Thurs. I am hoping for a career ending injury for Bushleague and that the Seahawks win two games tops and the toejams go 3-9 with Lane Kiffin caught in a car blowing a TV hooker. Well, I can dream right?

I love how harry's sports post can take him from acid-grandfather, humanist, shaman, kumbaya to "fuck him and the horse he rode in on," blood-drpping from his teeth hatred with just a mention of the hated USC Trojans.

Former University of Georgia Head Football Coach Glen Mason? Man, haven't thought about that guy in a minute.

Not many. It's more of a running joke at this point than anything.

What's funny is if you look at Mason and Jim Donnan's resumes at that point, it makes you wonder why they even hired the guy in the first place.

Then you consider that they also hired Ron Jirsa and it all makes sense.

*shudder*

Worst hire for any UGA program in my lifetime.

As lazy as it was ill-conceived and misguided.

The thing that annoyed me the most about this whole thing is that even the fans I talked to walking around campus and at a couple tailgates thought he was suspended which isn't the case at all. It's merely preventative which makes it even more annoying especially if they find no wrong doing.

The NCAA is just such a lame duck baby huey at times.

Okay football fans, let the debate begin today.

Tony Barnhart in today's AJC:

Quote:
But what I want to focus on this morning is tonight’s Boise State-Virginia Tech game. Because who you’re pulling for in this game says a lot about you as a college football fan.

For this game, fans fall into two different camps:

First there is the new wave. This group of fans is pulling for Boise big time because they think the little guy deserves a chance to play for the national championship and feel Boise has earned it with their play over the past four seasons (49-4). They believe the fix is in to take care of the big conferences when it comes to the BCS. They want the college football equivalent of Butler-Duke. More than anything these fans would like for the BCS to blow up and they think Boise is the best way to accomplish that goal.

The other group of fans I’ll call traditionalists. They don’t dislike Boise, but they strongly believe that the Broncos from the WAC play an easy conference schedule and could not survive under the weekly pounding that is the SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, etc. To them, Boise is a nice little team, very entertaining and all that. They admire what Boise has done within the context of what it is.

Quite frankly, they don’t want to have to listen for the entire season about Boise and how deserving they are and how the big boys just aren’t being fair to them. They want Boise to lose and get off the radar. Now.

Understand this when it comes to Boise. They start at No. 5 in the coaches poll and that is significant. It’s tougher to enforce a glass ceiling when a team starts at No. 5. But if we get to the end of the regular season and some combination of the SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12 champs are undefeated, then Boise is not going to get into the big game ahead of one of those champions. The voters in the coaches and Harris polls will look at the overall strength of schedules go with the big conferences. You can take that to the bank.

Here is why: The CBSSports.com poll that ranks all 120 Division I-A teams, reveals that while Boise is ranked No. 3 in the preseason, it plays the No. 100-ranked schedule. After Virginia Tech (No. 11) and Oregon State (No. 17), the remaining 10 teams on the Boise schedule are ranked No. 41 or worse. Five opponents are ranked No. 90 or worse.

Where it will get interesting in Decenber is if Boise is undefeated and there is only one or no undefeated champions in the other conferences.

This question, I think, focuses the argument. Let’s say Ohio State goes undefeated and gets into the national title game. Who gets the second spot: A 12-1 SEC champ, a 12-1 Big 12 champ or a 12-0 Boise? That is when the argument will get interesting.

What say you?

I'm rooting for Va Tech because my oldest nephew is a Freshman in the Corps of Cadets there.

And while I think Boise has had a nice run, and provided many exciting moments (that hook and ladder and statue of liberty to end the game against Oklahoma a few years ago was one of the most memorable play sequences I can remember) their hook is being an underdog that the big boys won't let play. You have to give them props for taking it head-on and opening with Va Tech.

In this instance, though, I have to say I'll take a 12-1 SEC over an undefeated Boise team....especially if said team is UGA ;)

I'm rooting for Virginia Tech. I like Beamer Ball and Nebraska needs to have teams drop in front of them if they are going to make a title run. I don't really have anything against the Boise State team, but their AD is a complete asshat. He keeps calling out Nebraska for ducking them, when we offered them a 2 for 1 deal that would have started in 2015 and then they tried to extort a million dollars from the Huskers in return for a one game deal in Lincoln.

It never occurred to me until I was up in Maryland for that wedding a couple of years ago how many kids from that area go to VT. It reminded me that I was still in the South.

Still, VT is like FSU for me, one of those teams I just lazily root for if they are playing. I'm a sucker for special teams prowess and players of questionable character.

I can't remember where I read or heard this but someone threw it out that the NCAA has been pretty pissed by the whole conference realignment thing (since they had nothing to do with it and no say in its outcome), and are now going to flex their muscles on any number of fronts big time.

Nighty night, keep your butthole tight.

Like KSU, they tended to rely on easy non-conference wins to set them up for Bowl eligibility, and were usually no better than fourth or fifth in the Big 12 North.
save for p rodgers i think you're giving a bit too much credit to a group of mediocre coaches than they truly deserve. rodgers & bastard successfully turned a program around while mason maintained (contract not renewed) & the other two failed miserably (neither beat big 8 powerhouse ksu & saw writing on wall before 'jumping ship'). i see no cursed program, just sub-par coaching & recruiting @ a basketball school. and i don't really understand your jab re: easy non-conference wins for bowl eligibility. how does this define a curse? i will be watching with baited breath the result of the nebraska/idaho, s dakota state results. and here i thought pelini was over his head when scheduling wku for this year's opener. i respect your love for ncaa ball, but please stop talking out of your ass when it comes to your conference brethren.

University of Maryland is full of kids from New York (Strong Island!) and New Jersey, so a big chunk of Maryland kids go to Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Clemson.

It's fine to mock Nebraska for the schedules that were made during the Steve Pedersen era at the behest of Bill Callahan who was trying to look like a winner and was following the Bill Snyder school of non-conference scheduling. The easy non-conference jab isn' in regards to the curse, it is in regards to the rather bloated record that Fat Bastard had when you compare his non-conference mark to his conference mark.
You can say what you will about Glen Mason, but he was playing future Big 12 teams Baylor (before they were truly terrible) and Texas Tech, Big Ten teams like Michigan State and ACC schools like Miami and Florida State in non-conference games during many of his bowl years. Plus, had to deal with Nebraska being a powerhouse and Colorado being a standard top 25 foe.

Nice, Dave Meggett's son Davin goes to UMD, and just scored a TD. Forgot the elder Meggett had Maryland roots.

On the whole VT thing, I guess I can wear my anti-VT tees again that I picked up at the WVU games. After the shootings, I kinda felt bad wearing them. I think the statute of limitations has worn off.

As for the UMD thing, when I was looking at colleges, UMD was an easy(ish) in for a MD resident. Then they won a Nat'l Championship and everyone and their brother wanted to enroll. It got really tough. My sis tried to get in--she was a 4.0 honor student, from a private school--and she would've had to have waited until the winter semester to go. Crazy.

This game has lived up to billing.

My opinion of Boise remains even if they come back here. They are a great team/program but it's the grind that gets you respect. Until a playoff or they get out of that conference they'll never get true respect.

Found the general area we want to be in but the University has officially killed any resemblance of the 90's. If you want to park ANYWHERE on campus it's gonna cost you minimum $20. The South Campus parking deck football permits sold out in July in 15 minutes and are now going for $250 on ebay for, what was, 6 home games.

Goddamn shameful. Tough to say what it's going to look like for a big game. I'm working some back channels right now for a parking pass. Adams won't be satisfied until people come into town, pay to park in a deck, go to the game, not tailgate, and leave.

General consensus was one of frustration.

Still, the little black dress was in full effect and most of the campus was full by 9am for the opener.

Looked like a top five team. If they go undefeated they should be in championship game unless Alabama and Ohio State also go undefeated. Simply no 1 loss should rank above this team.
