I picked this up used a while ago and have only listened to it in bits. I haven't had the patience to sit through the whole album yet.

I'm not sure what I was expecting but it's different than I had anticipated.

I can't help that Haq is obsessed with me and feels the need to interject what he thinks I might think about something in every thread.

I'm flattered, but really, there's nothing I can do about it.

I think we would come up with a pretty good love chain that begins with OPA and end with you. with Dalen, Haq, and Mormons some where in between.

Why do you fucktards always have to soil my threads with your cock size contests?

I'd win anyways if I bothered to enter.

Anywho, I'm giving this a listen and I personally am liking it.

And Balls, Yeah, Im pretty aware of the history of D. Boon (I actually remember when he bit it, him and Hillel, it was even in Skate/BMX rags), and the politics behind it all. I mean, I'm 30 years old, I remember all this shit and used to read about it and all but my geographical reality made me more inclined to be a metalhead. (no remorse, no regrets either)

Cool- I had a discussion recently about Black Flag with someone who had just recently discovered their music and was pretty dismissive, and I realized I cared as much about the time in my life etc. as I did the actual music.

I've had this forever, but have been listening to it a lot lately, since seeing We Jam Econo last weekend.

I did the same thing when I saw the doc. Haven't picked it back up in a while, but it's damn good

And despite the oversaturation from use in any and all things Jackass, I will never tire of "Corona."

I never really delivered on the criticism of the album I promised. Also, I have no recollection of starting this thread.

One of my favorite records. I'll go as far as to say its my no.3 of all-time. I can listen to it over and over. Unlike a lot of the 80s punk/hxc it doesn't get old, but like Husker Du, which was debated elsewhere on the board, I think it holds up incredibly well.

I've always preferred What Makes A Man Start Fires but I've got no problem with listening to both back-to-back to make a final judgement.

I like this record and don't listen to it often enough but it always amazes me that something like this found it's place in the great thread of rock n roll.

LA must've just been an anything goes place back in the early 80's where anything was possible.

Then again, from my own local historic perspective, so was Athens, GA.

I guess there is accounting for busting your ass, living in a van, and touring like there is no tomorrow.

There is a LOT going on.
I've had it 10 years, and still haven't been able to wrap my mind around the whole thing. Just a lack of patience, I think. But there is some amazing stuff on there.

I think that I have finally come around to loving this record. Yes. Yes I have. I now, officially love this record.

I admit - I don't know much about the Minutemen. This thread prompted me to watch We Jam Econo last night, and all I can say is wow. I love discovering new artists I've somehow overlooked for years.

Man, check out the long-gone posters in this thread.

It's been too long since I've listened to Double Nickels. Gonna have to put it on this weekend.

And I should probably watch We Jam Econo again soon.

This is completely worth yr while if you are a Minutemen fan. I found a used copy locally (and trust me, that's a miracle), and really love it.

Quote:
Spiels of a Mminuteman is a bilingual (English/French) book that includes all lyrics written by Mike Watt for the Minutemen from 1980 to 1985. The book also includes the 1983 Minutemen/Black Flag tour's diary of Watt's first visit to europe. Presentation and forword texts are by Joe Carducci, Richard Meltzer, Thurston Moore and, naturally, Mike Watt. Raymond Pettibon's drawings for the Minutemen covers are included. The book cover was drawn by Mr. Simon Bossé, and silkscreened by Leyla Majeri.
This second revised edition has a new cover and now includes an index of songs.

Great album by one of my favorite bands of all time. The day I came home with Double Nickels on the Dime and Husker Du's Zen Arcade was one of my best record store trips ever. Got to see 'em both live as well and they were both great. And yeah, count me among those thinking Husker Du has held up well.

After seeing "We Jam Econo", I earned a whole new appreciation for the Minutemen, and this album is usually on my phone.

One more thing, I like Double Nickels, but I think sometimes it kind of overshadows the rest of their catalog which is really good too. And, if it's a bit herky jerky and sprawling for you, you should check out things like 3-Way Tie for Last or Project: Mersh, both stretch the songs out and are a bit more structured without really losing the good bits about their earlier records. There's plenty to like when it comes to this band, not just one monster album. They've got a pretty deep catalog.

Absolutely agree. The "Post Mersh" stuff is good. As Bort said "What Makes Man Start Fires" is good as well. Double Nickels is just their undeniable classic.
