leon - My Teenage Stride - Ears Like Bats : Sounds like the Breakfast Club soundtrack meets the C86 scene. It's got that electro-pop wit quick jangle strumming that i dig. the song is short and sweet but I'm mentally noting the band and mentally wishing they have some slightly better songs. 6/10

shiv - Morning Benders - Promises : above average song by a promising band. The verses are unfocused, but then it shifts and builds into something great, but then goes back to blah. Another band I'll watch closely to see if they blossom into something amazing (other than "Excuses", which already hits the mark, but why did they stop there?). 6/10

shiv - White Denim - I'd Have It Just The Way We Were : For a bluesy indie garage band this sounds a lot like 70s AM white soul. I've heard other stuff by them that's ok though. 4/10

leon - Eminem - Marshall Mathers : Does lastfm censor bad language? I don't come across it often but it's really apparent here. Maybe it's from the album (it's some Greatest Hits collection) itself. I don't like this guy, and this song starts slow, fakes a build up, and then remains pretty mellow. The chorus is stupid. That can be said about so many hip-pop songs though. I guess I can't deny this dude's talent but IMO it's wasted on a track like this. Add in the gremlin and this barely earns a 3/10.

that white denim song is decent but not indicative of their usual sound. glad i have no eminem on computer.

rads The Postelles - White Night : Probably their best song. Not much to say other than nice new school alternative pop. Great chorus. 7/10

wench Brandi Carlile - Have You Ever : Lovely vocals, 2.5 minute Americana pop. Wench, hook me up with this song. That being said, it doesn't have enough to push above a 7/10

OVERTIME

wench - Magnolia Electric Co. - Song For Willie : I'm pretty sick of hearing this indie alt-country stuff by now. That being said, this still a solidly average song. I'd rather listen to Damien Jurado or Will Oldham. 5/10

rads - Wussy - Trail of Sadness : More ok indie rock/pop, but major Ass Ponys bonus points. 6/10

shiv - Lee Dorsey - Games People Play : I never got into "Ya Ya" but I suspect that's because I'm very white. I like this a lot more. Normally I like really rousing soul, but this laid back soul pop is great. 8/10

ft - The Tubes - She's A Beauty : Some 80s stuff sounds dated in a bad way. But sometimes 80s stuff sounds dated in a good, classic way. Like "Yeah I remember this sound, awesome!" This Tubes song walks the line directly between the two. 5/10

rads - Chuck Prophet - That's How Much I Need Your Love : Aaaand the streak of artists tagged "singer-songwriter/indie/americana continues! However, at least this guy 1) has a unique style and delivery and 2) has a distinct moderness hipness, rather than sounding like he just got off the farm. I'm gonna request the hook up for this dude too. 7/10

shiv - Sword Heaven - Town Hag : Why I am even on this board? Noise/drone/tribal/electronics? Not only is this, well, not good enough to beat rads, it's the worst thing I've heard all tourney. 1/10

Anti-climatic perhaps, but that's the way lastfm rolls.

Postelles - White Night: I like this band and this song. I'm not sure how behind the times I am, but apparently Albert Hammond Jr. is producing their next album? Could be sweet. I'm feeling generous and this shit don't mean shit so i'll go 8/10

Robbers on High Street - Electric Eye : Kinda has a "coool" vibe and a nice sound but the songwriting is pretty weak. Could do with a lot more of that semi-peppy chorus and less with the humdrum verses. 4/10

Candle Thieves - We're All Gonna Die (Have Fun): This kinda sounds like the Eels. Furthermore, the old Eels records that I like, not so much the new stuff. Definitely gonna check this shit out. 7/10

quick shamwow review:

Oner Koctpob - Otnyyckhwe Cbnctyhw - Lost in translation perhaps? Nothing like Russian downtempo lounge pop to really make you still be in awe of the wide world of music. Pretty sweet track, if not a little cookie cutter. Maybe it's a cover? 6/10

Boss Martians - Oh, Angela : Sounding particularly Costello-y here. They've always been hit and miss with me. I guess this is kinda a walk. 5/10

Nick Lowe - Not Too Long Ago : I prefer the Stiff Records-era stuff, but this isn't bad. I didn't know Shamwow was so into easy listening. 6/10

rparis quick review

Matthew Ryan - Irrelevant: singer/songwriter alt-americana stuff that suits the mood of this early fall morning perfectly. The song isn't all that though. Is this the type of guy we are referring to when we talk about the millionth mediocre Dylan rip off? 4/10

Spoon - Out Go The Lights : I like two Spoon songs, this isn't one of them. I don't want to call this bland, but I've got no qualms claiming this band is an overrated snoozefest. 4/10

Locksley - The Way That We Go : One of the better oldiescore bands out there now. Catchy pop/rock with a nod to the past but a sound that's still modern. Again i'll be generous with a 8/20.
