I agreed to a trade for Nebraska's Black Betty RIS that was just released on Sunday night. Have you had that one before? My only experience with Nebraska Brew Co. was a sample of Hop God which I found disgusting but they have a pretty good reputation.

I don't think I have had that one, even on tap at the local brew pub. I don't think Hop God is particularly good either, although they aged some in Chardonnay barrels this past year and that stuff was pretty damn tasty.

I have a friend from here in Lincoln that commutes up to the Omaha area to work for them as an Asst. Brewmaster, so I drink a fair amount of their products for free on occasion. I think their reputation nationally might actually succeed their reputation locally.

My favorite beer that they released in a small batch form was an Apricot Saison flavored with peppercorns, and I think their EOS Wheat from a fresh keg and clean tap lines is fantastic, but their products are quite as good as the local Modern Monks brewery.

I tried these two very special beers last night:

Weyerbacher 15 Smoked Imperial Stout

This is a celebration of our fifteenth year making craft beer and it stands as an example of the bold flavorful beers that we have come to make. This is not a timid ale; it’s an intense, full-bodied smoke experience. Fifteen has a rich flavor profile balancing notes of dark roast, burnt toast, and spicy rye with a deep earthy aroma of smoke and wood. This beer should age nicely and be a smoky treasure for many years

http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/weyerbache ... en/124448/
Ratebeer gave it a overall score of 98, and a score of 97 for style. It has a 10.8% ABV

Cigar City Brewing Co. Humidor Series Jai Alai Cedar Aged India Pale Ale

http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/cigar-city ... le/102863/
Ratebeer gave it a perfect score of 100 in both the overall and style point categories. It has an ABV of 7.5%

I like this.

I think I had that Lagunitas that you guys were talking about on the previous page. That and a bitter by - I think - Rogue. My bro-in-law and I ordered each of these on tap, w/me starting out with the Lagunitas. We ended up switching because I liked the bitter more. Wasn't crazy about either of them, though.

I bought some Widmer Brothers Broken Halo IPA to watch Husker Football on Saturday, but didn't drink any until last night. It was cheap, so I shouldn't really complain, but it was pretty nasty. It was way too hoppy, and had no real redeemable features.

Here's their commercial description:

Broken Halo IPA is a beer produced in the spirit of traditional IPA products shipped from the UK to India in the late 1800s. The almost excessive amounts of Cascade and Columbus hops used in Broken Halo give it notable citrus and grapefruit aromas and flavors. The beer bitterness measures high but tastes smooth due to the full-bodied, Caramel malt sweetness. The finish is juicy, clean, and short lived. A devilishly bold, heavenly smooth India Pale Ale. malts: PALE, CARAMEL 10L & 20L,carapils hops: ALCHEMY, CASCADE, zeus

Got a sixer of that Tumbler last night, and I like it.

I had some Firestone Double Barrel Ales at Angel Stadium last night, which I enjoy. They have a surprisingly good premium beer selection there (and they serve actual fucking cocktails on the concourse!), although the only "non-premium" beers they have are the aluminum Bud and Bud Lite bottles.

the DBAs were $8/12 a pop. ew.

Yeah that's why drinking at baseball games, in actuality, really sucks. Maybe it's different in other places, but I find it really hard to feel like I'm having an awesome time when I'm shelling out 7-8 bucks for a can of Budweiser.

Maybe it's different at other places, though, I dunno. Turner Field definitely does not belong in a discussion about "nice beer".

Is Yawkey Way something they made up at Fenway to accommodate the Boston accent?

Last night while I was talking to racist dude at the game he pointed out that there's a "family" section at Angel stadium where they can't have beer. Then he cupped his hands and yelled in their direction "there's no fucking point" or something to that effect. HE also told me that Dodgers fans were "animals". I had just told him how they had talked a load of shit because of my Phils cap, so that might've just been in context. Still, I call that "spirited fans".

I just had the smoothest beer I have ever tasted. Like, I didn't know beer could be made to taste this smooth. It was almost freakish. Without reading the label first, I said aloud "vanilla, caramel, and oak," and sure enough that's more or less what they list. The wife was like "...WHOA. That's what Bud Light should taste like." It's a good beer, 6.6% too, and shit I may just get more of it. I wish they had cases of it so I could put on some Michael McDonald on the Hi Fi and be all

Stoudt's Octoberfest. Clean finish, with all of what you want out of an Octoberfest without an overly sweet/malty taste.

dark horse brewing raspberry ale. the label looks like it was drawn by a 7 year old but i've had their sapient trip ale before and it was good (and really strong) so i decided to give this a try. the raspberry taste isn't overpowering and it's not watered down (like purple haze *yuck*).

shiv we gotta go hit up that good store you were telling me about. I've literally tried everything I want to try at both places near my house, and I'm treading water / scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Yeah those guys make some really good shit, that beer especially. When it's hot out, I'll grossly over-pay for one.
