I was reading an article this weekend that mentioned some poor guy who found out accidentally through dna testing that his 5 year old daughter was actually fathered by a co-worker of his wife's. The marriage ended immediately and two years later, the wife married the co-worker. Poor shmuck is stuck paying child support for the kid that's not even his.

It could be worse Toots.

oh man

can't the courts do something about that?

oh and here's a new development...

this weekend, exey tells me she's considering buying a new house with her bf, which somehow means she can afford to finance a $150K loan but not an $18K student loan.

:wanker:

I think you should be able to get some kind of lien/judgement/injunction against her to garnish wages intended for paying back the 18K per any agreement y'all have to split the costs.

Apparently the ex had claimed that the real father wasn't willing to support the daughter before she married the guy and so he agreed to the child support out of concern for the girl that he'd helped raise for 5 years. It ended up in their settlement agreement and then she married the real dad.

The article said his only option to fight it was to claim fraud -- that the ex lied about the real dad and extorted him which it sounds like she did. Nonetheless, guys like this are generally faced with 2 bad options -- either completely disavow the kid and lose all visitation rights and live with knowing how that might f up the kid, or agree to child support to get the ex to agree to some visitation rights. Since you aren't really the father, the court doesn't recognize you as having any rights.

Be thankful that you're not the new bf taking on a $150K loan with her.

yeah, i think this is pretty much definitive proof that she has not "in good faith" tried to refinance the loans. i was a bit concerned about how i was going to get that notion across, save about 25 glibly responded-to emails

Billy in that other situation there is a third option -- pull an Okey-Doke and sue for full custody. Again, fraud as the basis.

Why the hell would he have to pay child support if DNA proved it wasn't his kid???

And first thing she does is call you and tell you about it?

How does that conversation go?

mine still claims she's not seeing anyone, but when i went to pick up my twin peaks dvds, which were in the top drawer of the bureau, i stumbled onto a condom

even though it's been almost three months since i moved out, it was still pretty jarring

it shouldn't bother me, since i have no hope of or any interest in reconciling, but it did knock me off my bearings for some reason

i'm in a really weird place these dsys, smack dab between relishing my freedom and feeling desperately, soul-crushingly lonely

being destitute isn't helping much, either

Bobbo, I can relate to your newest discovery. I think when men find out their ex's are gettin' physical with another, we consider it an affront on our territory, and yeah, it usually hurts whether you want to admit it or not.

Try to make an effort to "get out" and do stuff you couldn't do while married. Even if that's going to a local event at a park or something simple like that. Just being around people can help. It's going to get better and if you look at it a certain way, you can take this as an opportunity to grow as a man by overcoming.

Neither have my parents or brothers. We've been here since 06 and no one in my immediate family has been to visit.

The Gars came! And though we didn't see your house, we did have 2 of the best meals I ate in 2009. Might have a reprise this winter.

The Gars definitely came, and it was rad.

We just ate at Jasper's during restaurant week, you should peep their menu. Or i need to take you two to Justine's. Or we can do parkside again, i wouldn't mind that at all.

But yeah, if you're coming, let's talk chow.

I'd much rather do another place than a repeat -- even though that meal was tops. Even if we don't do Austin, we'll be hitting that Chinese joint at the McKinney location.

Good, go share that shrimp wonton soup with her family, they'll thank you for it. And i'm down for new adventures. Sorry to hijack the exes thread, but i guess healing begins with eating. So i'm making baked potato soup right now to go with some grilled cheese for football.
