I'm frankly scared to play this because y'all are hyping this like crazy. No way it can measure up.

It does. And then some.

I haven't spent much time with it, but it certainly doesn't have the immediate effect that young criminal starvation league or from the end of your leash had.

I'll try to give it it's just due, but right now I'm not sure why this circle jerk went from a a Jenna Haze DP to a Sashae Gray gangbang.

he's playing here tomorrow night. thinking about going, even though i haven't listened to this album and have only heard a few songs by him.

Just go, and show up early for Blue Giant (Kevin & Anita Robison of Viva Voce).

And GAR, just stay away from the thread and pick this up in a few weeks after you've forgotten about your aversion to hype. It's a worthwhile listen. It took a couple of listens to dig in with me. It's not like the album is going away or anything.

Considering that I've been in the BBj tip since before I arrived here or the venerated CMJ, I think I know what I like about the guy, and them one song you brought up early in the thread lacks the sonic punch or creativity of the lyrics (especially the Wilco style chorus - "just repeat one phrase over and over") of the stuff that originally drew me to him.

I never said I don't like it, just that I'm not sure how it got a Dalen style "Albgum of teh decades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" status conferred upon it so soon after it popped up.

In my case, those first two songs were an open-fisted shot to the jaw of the best sort. The rest of the album is good but will take some digestion. But holy lordy, 1 and 2 are not to be denied.

Appears there's only two people in this thread giving it that kind of hype. Others are simply saying it's surprisingly good or better than expected. That's an odd phenomenon with message boards though: a couple "OMG album of the year!" posts interspersed among general approval reads like a groupthink of collective pantswetting.

Just to be clear, I really like it but it ain't in my top 10.

Only if one's reading comprehension is on par with, o, say, green algae.

I wish I could find a youtube of Tommy Rich doing his "CHRISTMAS DAY NIGHT" promo.
