They were talking on the radio about how much the Huskers want to win the Texas game and how they are really doing up the PR for the game--including auctioning all of the players jerseys (sans nameplates) after the game.

They auctioned off the 300th sellout jerseys last year too. I think the Athletic Department is doing that to fund the Big 12 buyout, but there has been a lot of early season hype for this game and that day is being called the red out around the world.
The University is also hosting a free concert by Big Boi the night before, so shit should be crazy downtown for much of next weekend.
The back to back losses by Texas basically ruined any chance of having ESPN showing up for another record Gameday crowd.

It was nice win by Nebraska tonight. I hope the offense can continue to play that well next week and run all over Texas like UCLA did a few weeks ago.

I think quite a few Heisman campaigns came to an end today, especially those of Denard Robinson and the two Bama backs.

I just don't think Gred McElroy has what it takes to will Bama to victory without any semblance of a running attack, but they made a valiant comeback there for a bit.

I'm guessing The Ohio State will be the new #1, now that Oregon is struggling with Wazzu.
I was hoping for a highly contentious poll to come out tomorrow with my Huskers in the top four, but I don't think they'll advance past #5.

Nice win by the UGA Dawgs today, you really took out some frustration on the Vols.

Glad to have a fball that finally seems comfortable with doing good things consistently instead of pulling out a revolver and taking aim at a big toe. I dig Dantonio's culture and concrete solid personality, especially after John L. Smith's reign of crazy.

Hey Denard, no one will tell if you want to spend a couple nights still practicing your Heisman pose in your bedroom mirror while crying like a bitch.

Yeah man, Sparty could have a special year with how their schedule sets up. If OSU slips up, that game with Iowa could be for the Big 10 title.

Nebraska is up to #4 this week, and The Ohio State is your new #1 team.

Here's the entire poll:
1. Ohio State (49) 6-0 1,455 2
2. Oregon (6) 6-0 1,388 3
3. Boise State (1) 5-0 1,335 4
4. Nebraska (2) 5-0 1,272 6
5. TCU (1) 6-0 1,213 5
6. Oklahoma 5-0 1,193 7
7. Auburn 6-0 1,060 8
8. Alabama 5-1 1,029 1
9. LSU 6-0 1,021 9
10. Utah 5-0 940 10
11. Michigan State 6-0 838 16
12. South Carolina 4-1 835 20
13. Arkansas 4-1 780 13
14. Iowa 4-1 710 15
15. Stanford 5-1 618 18
16. Wisconsin 5-1 542 19
17. Florida State 5-1 496 24
18. Oklahoma State 5-0 478 21
19. Missouri 5-0 434 22
20. Arizona 4-1 367 11
21. Nevada 6-0 329 23
22. Florida 4-2 242 12
23. Air Force 5-1 151 NR
24. Michigan 5-1 137 17
25. West Virginia 4-1 88 NR

I have seen early BCS projections that have Boise State at #1 and Nebraska down at #8 behind a one loss Alabama team, Oklahoma is sitting at #3 in these projections behind Oregon and LSU is at #6. I don't put a lot of stock into them, since they seem to be computer polls that haven't factored in the coaches poll or Harris Poll from this week, but it will be interesting to see how much love Boise State gets from the Computers when the actual BCS poll is released.

Ha! Horseshoe in the ass helps. Just keep Jarret Lee on the field.

Caleb King was arrested this morning for failure to appear.

I'm not sure why they came and got him at 5:00am for unpaid parking tickets, but I found this to be interesting:

King's arrest comes just days after according to a police spokesman, the running back's apartment on Wiltshire Drive in Athens was searched last Wednesday night by for stolen items following an earlier search at East Creek Bend.

So, with Alabama's loss, will this allow Boise State (assuming they march thru the reminder of the regular season slate without a loss (note: I said "loss", not "blemish"; I am sure the writers & coaches are hoping for a narrow victory against Fresno State, allowing them to mark Boise down enough that the human element of the BCS formula has the Broncos no higher than three) to play in the Nat'l Championship Game?

My Magic Eightball says, "No".

I'm expecting Oregon-Ohio State, Oregon-Nebraska, or Nebraska-Ohio State, assuming the three remain undefeated, with a strong possibility of one of those three (assuming a loss on at least one team's part) against LSU or 'Bama (if one or the other takes the SEC championship).

Boise State is being projected as one of the two teams in the BCS title game by a lot of people now, and if they are in fact the #1 team when they release the initial BCS poll next Sunday, I would assume that they would continue remain in the top two without a loss this season.
The computers seem to really love the Broncos right now, and it doesn't seem like that SOS has really hurt them all that much. I think they would really need to get fucked over by the human polls at some point for them to drop below a one loss SEC team, but it would not surprise me if that happened.
I'm just taking it week by week, and hoping the Huskers win every game. Whatever happens at the end of the year will happen. If Nebraska is somehow the odd man out, I'll certainly be pissed, but I should probably accept it as karma for that 2001 fiasco, when they played against Miami in the Rose Bowl.

Weak. There aren't even any bears in Mississippi. They're claiming it's based off a Faulkner short story.

while on the subject of mascots:

I don't really get changing the image of your mascot when you are still going to call yourself the Rebels. I don't think their old mascot was that offensive, it was the questionable fight songs and the Dixie Flag that most people seemed to dislike. UNLV are the rebels and their mascot isn't all that different from the ole Colonel Reb.

As for the new UGA, don't let this one get so goddamn fat. I'd hate to see another one die of congestive heart failure after only being on the field for a year or two.

K-State is annihilating the Jayhawks in Lawrence tonight 31-0 at the half. Things are getting real ugly real fast for Turner Gill at KU. This is pretty embarassing. I guess you can chalk him up to the long list of former Husker assistant coaches who failed to succeed as FBS level head coaches, since he might not last another season.

Also, I was truly happy to hear that the reason Russ couldn't be an Uga: HE'S NOT PURE WHITE. How was I never informed of this requirement before? I feel like this should be required reading for freshman (along with the 3/5 Compromise).

That alignment looks fine to me, I guess the main issue they are going to have to tackle is the breakdown of Division/permanent opponent from the other division/rotating opponents from the other division.

For example, the SEC does a 5/1/2. If I understand correctly, some in the P10 are pushing for a 5/2/2 specifically so all the California schools can play each other ever year. The SEC has rejected this as too damn many Conference games and along the way had to drop some traditional every year matchups (Auburn-Florida for example)

Whatever the alignment is, it must accomodate NorCal and SoCal teams playing each other every year.

I think you will see one protected cross division rivalry game a la the new Big Ten set up, but I don't think you will see USC and UCLA playing both Cal and Stanford every single year.
I fully understand why the northern schools are adamant about having at least two games against California schools each year, recruiting blue chip players in California is a necessity for those programs and they have a longer history with the conference than the Arizona schools and most of the California schools thanks to the old PCC.
