ESPN's Brad Edwards is now projecting the Oklahoma Sooners to be the #1 team in the first BCS poll, with the Oregon Ducks sitting at #2
Boise State is #3, TCU is #4 and Auburn in #5.

I now believe a one loss SEC team could still sneak into the mix, especially if Alabama wins out. If the Tide are able to beat unbeaten LSU and Auburn along the way, they will certainly have the SOS to surpass Boise. The Broncos SOS took a serious hit when Oregon State and Nevada lost last night.

Oklahoma, no. 1? & that, right there, is the problem with the BCS.

Didn't OU almost lose to Florida State?

No, they boat raced the Noles. And Florida State might be the best team in the ACC.

Edit: It was 47-17 OU and is FSU's only loss.

No, they almost lost to Utah State, Air Force and Cincinnati. The Sooners killed Florida State by thirty, and the Seminoles are currently ranked #16 after annihilating in state rival Miami by 28 pts two weeks ago.

Oklahoma plays Mizzou next week and will be the only team currently in the top three to play three ranked opponents. I don't necessarily think they are the best team in the country, but I wouldn't argue against them deserving to be ranked at the top of an extremely early BCS poll.
None of this will matter until early December anyway, so there's no need to worry about who is at top right now.

Thanks to you & Bloor for the correction. I knew I remembered OU not looking terribly sharp this season, but got confused on which game(s).

Also: how does Stoops avoid the same mockery & ridicule that besets Jim Tressel? Is it just the sweater-vest that sets JT apart, as a Coach FAIL?

I've heard a lot of criticism of Stoops over the years up to an including the suggestion that the Sooners should no longer be allowed to play in the BCS title game. I do think he's a good coach though: Dude won his conference 6 of the last 10 years.

Stoops and Tressel are both great coaches. It's hard to win the MNC. Unless you're Les Miles.

That was a hell of a game between Okie State and Nebraska. There was a shit ton of points, little to no defense and both coaches successfully called trick plays in the first half.
I sure wish they could have caught a few of these touchdown passes last week, but it feels good to beat another former Big 8 foe during our farewell tour.

It sure looks like Texas blew their wad last week against Nebraska and clearly didn't expect Iowa State to lead by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The Iowa game is now the biggest game for Sparty in decades?

Still, the current BCS rankings just tell me that a BCS bid for Boise is guaranteed if they win out.

As for the rest, Championships are won in November.

I'll set the over/under for a Oregon/Auburn BCS Champ. game at 121.5

The Big 12 North, Big Ten and Pac-10 may all be decided this weekend.
I'm not sure if my Huskers have what it takes to beat Mizzou at home, since they haven't looked good playing at home this season and tend to struggle in games against top ten teams. They have also been .500 in the month of October under Pelini, so one would suspect that they are due for a stinker this weekend.
The early line favors the Huskers by seven, which isn't good. I was hoping they would be clear underdogs on Saturday.

You're forgetting that Justin Houston is going to rape Cam Newton the night before the UGA vs AU game and render him physically and emotionally unable to perform, therefore we'll win by a last minute FG because Bobo's game plan will be all fly patterns, toss sweeps and FB screens with the one failed triple reverse that makes as much sense as this post.

I'm not sure what to think of this Nebraska-Mizzou matchup. On one hand, Missouri's offense is not going to be as good as what we just witnessed this weekend with OSU. They just don't have a Kendall Hunter, thank goodness for us Husker fans. On the other hand, their defense is going to be much tougher than OSU's by a big margin. Mizzou has only played one road game this year (at Texas A&M). I'm hoping a little bit of a letdown from the OU game helps us out, and we sneak out of the stadium with a win by a margin of around 7-10 points. I really think our defense will turn it around and have a good showing against them. Our DB's won't get burned like they did against OSU again. Now, if T-Mart can just keep his mistakes low and let the game come to him, I think we'll be able to move the ball pretty well also. I'm thinking whoever wins the turnover battle wins the game.

Heard a LOT of scenarios today for how the BCS will wind up the consensus being that Alabama is the only one loss team that has a chance to leapfrog both unbeaten Boise and/or unbeaten TCU if only one other Big 6 team ends up undefeated (they would not be able to jump any other undefeated team.

So there's your setup: The "playoff" for the MNC starts this week for eight teams and it's all over for everybody else. Thanks for playing.

Biggest since I don't know when. A big thanks to the scheduling gods for making that a 3:30 game. Butthole Surfers are playing a dive bar on the east side the night before ("Locust Abortion Technician" in its entirety) and I'll need a good bit of the afternoon to scrape my brain matter off the pavement.

I think TCU will most definitely leapfrog Boise in the computers (and probably in the human's) if they beat undefeated #8 Utah on 11-6 (and deservedly so).

Oklahoma has a higher computer rating than Alabama at this point, as does LSU, so both of those teams could make a run to the BCS title if they happen to win out.
I don't personally think that LSU will beat Bama and win out, but the Sooners certainly have a good shot at beating OSU and Baylor to end the season and then win the Big 12 title game against Mizzou or Nebraska.

Husker LB Eric Martin was suspended for the Missouri game as a result of this alleged helmet to helmet hit on Oklahoma State DE Andrew Hudson during a 100yd Kickoff return for a touchdown. I thought the hit looked pretty clean in real time, and it appeared to me that his shoulder contacted the cowboy player in the upper chest before any helmet to helmet may have occured.
It sucks that the poor kid had just recently came back to the football field from back surgery and has had two previous concussions, but Eric Martin did in fact hit him head on a special teams play and every football player is taught at a young age to always keep their head on a swivel during kick return plays.
