From my one time experience, the actual fest is an afterthought of jazzfest. It's the city during jazzfest, and the concerts all over the city at night, and the people that descend on the city who like to party but with maybe a little less vomiting than mardi gras.

I enjoyed the actual fest shows, but it was more for the people watching and food than being blown away by some dudes who may or may have not played with the Meters at some point. The people watching leaned more towards weirdos at a record show than Dalen's dad photo, though that guy was probably there.
