Nah, didn't offend me. I'm pretty open to discussions and open about what I believe.

I absolutely agree people use biblical references to explain all types of things. Many times they don't have insight into what is really being said (see: exegesis and hermeneutics). The sad thing, these are the ones who get the most publicity. Pat Robertson said some unfortunate things about Haiti. It really makes it hard to celebrate the good things Christians were doing at the time.

As you said, these are fringe Christians. I hope others realize Christians aren't all like this.

Following this nuclear thing is like trying to follow a soap opera. Crikey. Third explosion, then a fire... all within this evening. Apparently radiation levels in the area are spiking.

The Nuclear crisis is scary.

Check out these before and after photos. Slide the bar back and forth to compare.

Gilbert Gottfried violated the 'Too Soon' rule on twitter when he Wrote:
I was talking to my Japanese real estate agent. I said “is there a school in this area.” She said “not now, but just wait.”
- Japan is really advanced. They don’t go to the beach. The beach comes to them.
- What do the japanese have in common with @howardstern? They’re both radio active.
- Japan had put out this urgent plea….” PLEASE SEND US A FEW BIlLION RUBBER DUCKIES!!!!!”
- Japan called me. They said “maybe those jokes are a hit in the US, but over here, they’re all sinking.”
- What does every Japanese person have in their apartment? Flood lights.
- My Japanese doctor advised me to stay healthy I need 50 million gallons of water a day.
- I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, “They’ll be another one floating by any minute now.”

There is nothing Jesus about that message.

Agreed?

OMG WE'RE SO THANKFUL THAT GOD ANSWERED OUR PRAYERS TO DESTROY A COUNTRY!

The question mark after "agreed" was supposed to be an exclamation. And the caps comment was a sarcastic summation of what it sounded like she was saying.

In agreement with you. Not "getting at" anything other than the fact that her message is totally absent insight and depth. Unfortunately, she seems entirely ignorant to the fact that her "heart for the atheists" actually just sounds like she is super excited that God killed a bunch of Japs.

It never fails though. Any major natural disaster or terrorist attack and some doofus has to ramble on about how it is God punishing that area for something: Japan for Atheism, New Orleans for it's general moral debauchery, 9/11 because of the gays and pedophiles, Indonesia for Islam, Haiti for voodoo and paganism, etc. etc. Those more reasonable and hesitant to make statements about God's intent, though, aren't marketable enough for prime-time tv and don't cause enough of a shock to get any attention by youtube watchers and the general population.

America doesn't care about finding some sort of pluralistic common ground to move forward and be unified, they just want to react to everyone else's stupidity and ignorance so they can feel better about themselves. That's my hopeless rant for the day.

I think I read AFLAC does 70 or 80% of their business in Japan.

You're. Fired.

I also love the fact that it's Gottfried, who of course gets fired for hack jokes on fucking TWITTER. He could have said these to everyone he knows and gotten away with it. Puts it out there on a public forum, and his Corporate Overlords nut cut him. You didn't get fired because you made the jokes, you got fired because you are A. Fucking. Dumbie.

Gotcha. The question mark threw me off.

This will certainly be cited in our upcoming book on make work jobs.

How about just celebrating what good PEOPLE do all the time? Why do their religious beliefs matter?

I think his comment about what Christians were doing at the time was relevant to the idea that people like Pat get all the press because they provide shocking, fringe opinions on world events rather. It's sort of like reporting all the murders in the black neighborhoods as opposed to the things that happened throughout the day that were positive. Newsworthy is shocking. Selflessness and grace aren't good for the ratings.

Thanks, thats pretty much the idea. I don't think Pat Robertson is seen as a figurehead to any other group than Christians, his words made people think that he spoke for everyone.
