Today, my parents are in the process of moving out of the house where I grew up after 37 years there.
Weird feeling.

My parents still live in the house that I grew up in, but I remember after my sis and I finished college, both got married, etc., they decided to do some re-decorating. They got new furniture for our bedrooms, re-painted, boxed up all the old stuff and put it in the basement. I guess it was "moving on" to a new chapter for them, but it was tough to walk into my room and realize, its not my room anymore. For the longest time, my parents kept up all my posters, my desk drawers had all my papers, but no more. Its a weird feeling.

My wife is going through something similar because her childhood home is on the verge of being sold. Her mom is subsequently moving out of state then. She said to me after the last trip to her home, "when the house is sold, I'll have no reason to go back". About broke my heart.

I knew a couple in Chicago that lived in a big expensive house in one of the northern burbs, they were about to retire and bought a condo in the city. The family moving in was super nice and said they would take great care of the house because it meant so much to the old retiring couple. A month after buying the old house, the young couple had it bulldozed.

That young couple was Mr. and Mrs. robotboy!

You can never be too careful about making sure there's no lead paint in an old house.

(Of course, robotboy is about the last Obner I'd expect to be psycho about insulating his kids from all evil &/or "evil". In fact, he -- & maybe timmyjoe & Twilight Kid -- would be likely to encourage the kids to eat paint-chips, dirt, etc., to build character. (Also: had a prof in college who was of the opinion that childhood asthma & other such things spiked as socio-cultural mores became more hypoallergenic. Actually makes some sense, pathogenically/immunologically.)))

my parents turned my bedroom into a guest room almost as soon as i moved out for good after college. it was really weird the first time i returned. now when i visit them, i sleep there and it feels like a bed & breakfast instead of home. on the plus side, my dad has been pretty vocal about never moving out of that house.

I think the thing that struck me most was when I closed the door for the first time, and none of my drawings, posters, flyers, etc weren't taped there anymore.

Come on now...who has paint chips in their house and eats them? Dirt on the other hand is what makes you tough and resistant to diseases.

my old room has been turned into my son's new room for when he goes over there and spends the night/weekend. it's way different than when i lived in it, but it's nice having him take the space.

I've never heard the MC5's "Back In The USA" album but after seeing about 5 songs off it played live last night I bought immediately when I got home.

How were the 45s? I have a CD of theirs I really like.

Why is this article about Bronies in Wired and not on The Onion. This has to be a joke....right?

Worst thing about dating more than one woman... when two of them are attending the same event you were planning on going to as well.

Pic of Sarah Palin giving a State of the State Address, when she was governor.
What I love about this pic, though is the look on the face of the woman in the upper left of the photo: it screams, "You are so full of shit!"

Nothing really of note. Had scheduled something for tomorrow morning, and I just happened to call to confirm the time. When I asked, the guy seemed completely blank as to why I was calling, and then informed me that it had been cancelled. I had registered like a month and a half ago.

So it was a reaction to that, and well, the other stuff that happens on a near daily basis. Just made me wonder why people are often just so wrapped up in themselves to exert a little courtesy towards others.

Like I said, it was more of a thought bubble being hatched out loud.
