Let's ask Jeff Nelson what he thinks of Ian, as a friend.

Also: the picture is like an alternate universe Dave Matthews Band (with Ian as Dave, obviously), aged twenty years.

?

They both still run Dischord together, don't they? I'd imagine it's a similar situation. They've had their differences but ultimately stuck together. For 30 years.

Actually already exchanged that bike. Rode it once and talked to a guy and then read a bunch of stuff saying how cheap bikes with shock absorbing things were trouble and inevitably failed really fast, so switched it out for a similar bike without shocks. Also, being in the Gateway City, I liked this one called the Gateway anyhow... I think this will do nicely.

Image

And yes, still well aware this is nothing fancy compared to real boke people bikes, but it is comfy and I am gonna go ride to the pride parade in a few. Couple years from now if I'm still riding...then I think about a fancy bike.

I like this one even better. Road bikes really, really don't need suspension. It soaks up some of the energy you're putting down to the pedals, making you bounce up and down a little instead of going forward. Plus a cheap bike with suspension has REALLY cheap suspension components, which don't even work very well (and yes, don't last either). But they LOOK like something you might need, so people buy them, which means companies keep making them. I keep chuckling when I see 4 year old kids on tiny bikes with training wheels, and front + rear suspension. It's gotten nuts. What you wound up with here is a perfect city bike for people looking to go a medium pace, be comfortable, not get a bunch of flats, not attract (as much) theft, and maybe be able to sling a bag on there somewhere. Shit's perfect.

We have road racey bikes too, but 99% of the time we take the old steel 3 speeds out. We're just not in a hurry. And we like to chat with people at stop lights, wave at kids in cars, cheesy shit like that. It's harder when you're hunched over. And several times we've been out and just sorta wound up having to carry something huge home with us, so it helps to have big steel frames and racks and bungee cords. Now that I think about it, that Belleville I have is like the Ford Explorer of the bike world. I've become everything I hated. :)

Yeah, strapped saddle bags to the rack, and already have made trips to the bakery and grocery store on it. Seems a decent practical bike for my needs.

Also...my spending spree continues (this is the month I get 3 instead of 2 paychecks). I am now needing to rent a truck for the weekend so I can drive around on Saturday and pick up my new Dining Room and Bedroom furniture. A lovely Heywood Wakefield bedroom set in mint condition and a nice blond mid-century dining set from a local store that has been around damn near forever, they actually opened up when Abe Lincoln was in office.

Now...do I spend the rest of my stash on a reel-to-reel player that comes with a giant stack of reels?

Looking at this weather forecast for North Carolina makes me hope I'm on a terrorist watch list and get held by the TSA for awhile.

We really need laws against dreads on white people. Protect people from themselves.
