Also, upon further reflection, I'm gonna say that Chipper is more beloved to me than Dale Murphy for two reasons:

1. He played on the 1995 WS team.

2. Murph had plenty of great moments (mostly on bad teams) but Chip's single handed dismantling of the New York Mets is one of the single most satisfying sports happenings of my life.

I'm also a bigger fan of Glavine than either and I'd wager that Smoltz is at least as beloved as either Chipper or Murphy by Braves fans at large.

Yeah, Glavine was always my fave.

I just think there's this well of good will out there for Murph because most of our formative years were when he was either leading to them to the last of their division championships before a ten year drought (I went to a game in 1982, and not again until 1992 when we moved back there) - and because of the influence of being on TBS for so many years, even though they sucked.

But fuck, Chip's now the elder statesman, and has far eclipsed the "Larry the dude who be fuhin Hooters chicks" rep of the early years.
