I wouldn't be too worried about BBY. With Geek Squad stores opening nationwide, I've been told this sucker's actually going to budge - upwards.

Then again, I wagered the Kansas Jayhawks would beat the Bucknell Bisons.

well, i sold bby because big downward momentum usually carries a slight of that type of momentum for a while. i'll look to pick it back up once it stabilizes after its current bad news. i've made more $ than lost with BBY so far, and i like their stores, so i'll go back to the stock eventually.

i also think the markets will flat-line or downturn soon due to oil & gas prices, overall increasing inflation and a slow-down of the housing market. having dumya in office for another 4 will just muck this all up.

I'll trade in the stock market for a couple of classic Teles.
Or I would, if I owned it.

no, the markets are too volatile. plus, i would expect some major losses in the next 3-4 years if the oil prices keep rising as expected and the us deficit and debt grows. i think we're in for a big time recorrection soon.

i think a correction is coming, just not too big. nasdaq under 1880 and dow down at least 1k.

plus, us deficit just keeps growing & countries are eventually gonna start apply pressure. and then what if those that we buy from, china & japan for example, start raising their prices (economies)?

The AWESOME thing about that is, with all the tax giveaways under Bush, you get hit EVEN HARDER with property taxes. I think it worked out that the average person in GA's tax burden increased 4-6% last year.

Glad live in AL, where property tax increases are a constitutional issue, and the folks here wouldn't even amend the constitution to officially take school segregation out, much less a tax increase.

I have a 401(K) but I need to change some stuff around in it, and most likely move to a Roth.

the thing about property tax is that my assessment isn't really going up very fast - the actual values of most houses here are way way above the assessed values. my property tax on a house that is worth about 275k on the market is about 2500 per year.

You are lucky, most places are opposite, as in to rectify revenue shortfalls, they assess houses at a much higher rate. NH was hit really hard by this in the last few years.

(By comparison, Rodney, my dad's house is assessed at close to yours, and he pays around $300 a year. Not a typo. Three Hundred Dollars)

we have no sales tax so property taxes are moderately high - i live in a poor neighborhood where the rates are lower. i have friends in other neighborhoods that pay quite a bit more as a % than me.

here is our data:

Property Value (2003)
Market Value $181,160.00
Assessed Value $99,810.00
Taxes (2003)
Property Taxes $2,221.62
Total Taxes $2,221.62

pretty interesting...our actual market value is much higher...until the whole thing crashes.

NH has no sales or income tax...property tax is what they live (free or die) by. It has created a huge problem, where they have not only had to raise rates, but there has been inference that they have raised assessment values as well. Not too popular when retired people start losing their houses.

I think some states have actually passed laws that forbid an assessment from rising too much in any given year. Better hope Or. gets one before they see the goldmine they are sitting on.

there are laws on this - an initiative measure was passed several years ago putting caps on property taxes. schools have gone downhill since then. we have a low overall tax burden.
