Accidentally bought a second copy of this on vinyl, and gave it a listen over the weekend. I wish a couple of Simon solo songs were replaced with S&G songs, but it's still a nice album.

I like most of the Simon songs on there, particularly Kodachrome>Maybelline and Slip Sliding Away (which is made awesome by the harmonies).

Also the smell of cheap wine and cheaper weed that permeates the whole affair.

I miss cheap weed. This crazy expensive stuff that you get a whiff of and are stoned for hours is annoying. I wanna pay a couple bucks for some dirt weed and roll a fat joint to kick back and toke on for half an hour. Damn, I feel old today...

Anyway, here's what I was listening to on the way to work...

Throbbing Gristle: 20 Jazz Funk Greats

The songs here are neither jazz nor funk and there are not 20 of them. Still, this is about as accessible as Throbbing Gristle get. Most of the songs here certainly have an edge and experimental noises seep in and out of everything. But, there is some structure to the whole affair, some actual songs, melodies permeating most tracks. I find this the perfect starting place for checking this group out and pretty much the sweet spot in their catalog. The idyllic cover art brings it all together.

I don't mind the solo Simon stuff, but I'd much rather have "Cecilia," "El Condor Pasa," and/or "A Hazy Shade of Winter" than "Still Crazy..." and "50 Ways..." for instance. But yes, hearing "Kodachrome," "Slip Sliding Away," and "Me and Julio" with AG in the mix is a nice treat.

I made my parents play this at least once a day betewwn the ages of 4 and 6 - then, tragically, I left it on top of a lampshade with the lamp on and it got warped. Just found the record at a used CD store. My 6-year-old thought it sounded "weird".
