Yeah, it's a grower.

I love the first half, but I do still think the second half of kinda weak (at least by comparison).

i like the first few songs on Adventure more than anything on Marquee Moon. But i can't listen to either all the way through.

Listen intently to the title track. Hear how all the instruments accent different beats and how the drums hold it all together. Then it all falls into place with the run up the scale in the chorus.

Also the second guitar solo is so much more than a guitar SOLO... yes, Verlaine's playing is brilliant, but hear how the rest of the band supports him and emphasizes the build up and then breaks apart into the beautiful atmospheric chirpings.

I have tried to cover that song with three separate bands and, while the individual parts aren't all that tough to play, getting the whole band together is exceedingly difficult.

And when I saw them in '92, the NAILED it.

All ye naysayers, listen to the title track closely, as such come back to me with your impressions.

Plus, it just nails me in the gut, on an emotional level, too.

I've got it...& this thread has inspired me to slap it on right now.

Kinda surprised there's so much dislike for it here, but my hunch is a lot of it can be chalked up to the generational divide I see here from time to time.

The self-titled one, or Adventure?

The S/T is not NEARLY as good as MM. Adventure isn't as good either, but still outstanding, IMO.

As far as I know, I've never heard a Televison song. But I'm culturally deprived. I've had it on the list for a long time, but it never got near the top so far.

I think it's always been hip to not enjoy albums that are overrated, over-used as an "influence" and damn near unlistenable.

I love this band (see comments above), but it's ridiculous when people get all worked up because others don't like the same thing they like.

OMG YOU DON'T LIKE TO BOWL!?! YOU MUST BE RETARDED OR INBRED OR SOME COMPLICATED LABEL THAT HAS THE WORDS "HIPSTER" OR "BACKLASH" IN IT SOMEWHERE.

If anything, knowing people don't like it makes me like it even more.

And it was already one of the best albums ever.

I'll hook you up when the DC++ is back up and running, if you so desire.

It took me probably a dozen listens before I wasn't tempted to turn it off, "Venus" kept bringing me back. Now I love it and listen to it fairly regularly.

Ownt.

The most intelligent record to come out of the proto-punk scene.
