Daniel Romano
Norman Blake
The Booze

in that order. I could see Joe Henry bumping The Booze down with more listens though.

I think you'll like it. Don't know if it will make your list. Nice "nu-gaze" that has short songs and isn't too self-indulgent.

Girls and Kurt Vile are two of my favorites this year as well. I liked the first Girls, but this one is more consistently interesting with each song having a new vibe and feel, from tight zeppelin riffs to dreamy 50s girl group doo wop. And it keeps growing on me.

For people who dig chicks and bloodshot records, lydia loveless sounds like patsy cline meets wednesday addams.

1. Saw Girls live... and it really opened up "Father Son and Holy Ghost", I liked it at first, but has really grown on me.... like Arial Pink it's mysteriously good... classic rock not descontructed, just loved.

2. WULYF (I know I'm supposed to be repulsed by the hype, but the intensity is irresitble for me... and chuch-echo guitar sound...)
3. John Maus ... see comments about Ariel Pink above.

My friend LOVES that WU LYF record and is constantly trying to push it on me. I've tried, but just can't get into it. They're playing here in a couple weeks and he's offered to pay for my ticket if I'll go with him. Maybe seeing them live will show me something I can't hear on the recording.... Anyone seen their live show?

I just can't hear that kurt vile album enough. I can play it 3 times in a row, 7 days a week, and only want to hear it more. I started out thinking "hmmmmm, this is kinda boring...", and all of a sudden my opinion flipped to "oh my god, this is BRILLIANT!" Bloody fantastic record from front to back.
