What's your problem? It's at half mast in Canada too, and likely around the world. You may have a problem with the Pope but there's at least a billion people on this planet who are saddened by his passing, and feel he deserves respect.

My problem is that it's inappropriate for the flag of the United States to be at half-mast for a religious figure, be it the pope or fucking Pat Robertson. This has nothing to do with respect.

It's at half mast at the Post Office and Banks, etc.. around here. If you think about as The Pope is also a head of state (The Vatican) it makes sense. It's outta respect. As a reverend, i can understand.

Why? He was an important person for the millions of catholics the world over, and respected amongst non christians. It's a mark of respect for a man, whether or not you believe in the same things as he did.

Look, I think it's inappropriate because I think it's crossing the line in terms of the separation of church and state. If all you people don't agree, I don't care, it's your opinion. But that doesn't make me an ass hole for thinking this. My opinion is just as valid. There have been plenty of other people throughout history that deserve as much or more respect than the pope. The fact that millions of people loved him and he deserves respect is a bullshit reason to put the flag at half-mast.
