I don't get the comparisons in that review, but I swear I'm hearing a channeling of Bolan more than anyone else. I've liked most of what I heard and the opener Drifting In and Out is great. Back melody reminds me of a song where the chorus goes"we are, we are, we are ..." 1980's-ish? Can't think of it now.

yessir, thanks

and they seem to borrow the same again but on vocals for the 2nd track Put Me to Sleep

it's all slowed down and less bombastic than my reference though

I would not say its your thing Rads but there is some fuzzy bliss with that Bolan voice going on but more laid back, check the 3rd track Shapeles and Gone or Picture

Yeah, jury's still out for me. I did hear the "From a Whisper to a Scream" echo in there, and a tiny bit of the Bolan. It's intriguing enough that I'll keep it around for a while and see how it wears.

Sorry. That would require me to re-D/L and think more about it. It is not time well spent. Very similar to commercial hard rock radio from 1996.

I think time capsule full of concentrated shit from 1996 is a way more apt description.

Fair enough. I'm gonna throw Helmet in as an RIYL as well. Any objection?

Helmet used to be my favorite band when I was 12. This does not compare at all to Helmet. But if you must....

This sounds more like Betty era Helmet, when they started sucking.

That album was a clunker, but I loved Aftertaste..at least the 15 year old me did. But still besides the "throw-off" in the on position on the snare, I don't see a whole lot of resemblance of this Whores record to Helmet. And I'm not even sure about the Jesus Lizard or Melvins comparison. Whatever, it seems we can all agree that it sucks.

An album constructed out of boredom for the entertainment of its creator?

Regardless of its intent, a reputation and some studio musician friends that'll work for free will get a record label backing.
Same fucking stories told by Finn time and time again. Only this time the music is even more boring than the Hold Steady.
You'd have to try really really hard to like this; which is why someone will declare it's a hidden gem.
The great thing about the internet is I don't have to blindly buy this paper-mag hyped-up piece of garbage CD 20 years ago.

Image

It's been said time and time again
and confirmed monthly:
Lifter Puller >>>>>Hold Steady >>>>>>>>>now This.

This is the gospel and the truth of Craig Finn.

Listened to the Craig Finn today, and while it's not flat-out terrible, I was somewhat disappointed.

That new Nada Surf, on the other hand, I found quite enjoyable from start to finish.

You're better off not hearing it. It's atrocious. Absolutely shitty. No redeeming value whatsoever. The above-mentioned hairy pair of balls have been completely soaked in Craig Finn saliva.

A track off the Craig Finn solo album came on in the car yesterday.
Wifewilleatyou goes "this fucking guy again? no thanks" and hits scan. I was curious to hear it but I figured she was probably right.
