She wants a mix of Vietnam era songs. I guess once you go to war you develop a quick understanding of what the veterans of other wars went through or something.

So, they need to be popular songs. Nothing obscure, she's not a hipster. Something that would probably get play on your local oldies station.

Here's what I have so far and feel free to tell me if I should take something on or off.

All along the watchtower - Hendrix
California Dreaming - Mamas and Papas
Paint it Black - Stones
Baby, please don't go - Them
I got you ( I feel good) - james brown
Like a rolling stone - Bob Dylan
What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong (closing it with this)

Considering:

Born on the Bayou - CCR
Suite:Judy Blue Eyes - Crosby, Stills, and Nash
Light My Fire - The Doors
I get around - Beach Boys
What's Goin On - Marvin Gaye
The Weight - The Band
My Generation - The Who

Tell me which of these you think I should include.

I want to put "Fortunate Son" by CCR on there but I don't have it so if anyone has that bad boy and want to PM it to me feel free.

Suggestions?
Motown?

It's bottom of the ninth, two out, score is tied, a man on third and Obner steps to the plate.........

"All Along the Watchtower" - Hendrix

"Masters of War" - Dylan (pre-serious Vietnam era but poignant; don't lose L.A.R.S. though)

"Street Fightin Man" - Stones

"You Send Me" - Sam Cooke

"Revolution" - Beatles (hilarious lyrics that people take for granted - "Ballad of John and Yoko" is great too)

get on AIM Derris!

Edit: "Homeward Bound" by Simon and Gar is a great song for someone overseas......

Buffalo Springfield, "For What It's Worth"
Nancy Sinatra, "These Boots Are Made For Walking"
The Troggs, "Love Is All Around"
Spencer Davis Group, "I'm A Man" or "Gimme Some Lovin'"

Some Temptations or Four Tops, hell yeah.

I'd say "Sam Stone" but that may be too obscure. I'd say Bloor and Kung fu nailed what you didn't

They made a soundtrack for the Battlefield Vietnam game with a lot of appropriate songs.

if i was making this, i think that i'd pick a couple of tracks from Nuggets or something for variety, but it seems like what she wants is the forest gump soundtrack.

Yeah, but who wants to pay for shit.

I looked at the track listing for:

Good Morning Vietnam
Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse Now
Platoon

and some "Vietnam" comps on Amazon for reference but it never hurts to throw the question up here.

We're also talking about a lesbian girl in the marines who normally listens to nothing but gangsta rap and smoove r & b. If it's not instantly recognizable she would probably not dig it.

The Clash - Rock The Casbah

...not Vietnam-era but appropriate.

For the cover of this, you should find some kind of really cool eagle head/flag montage. Call it "Please support our troops!"
