I'll probably continue to watch since the wife likes it, but this show has absolutely no idea what to do with itself.

Not knowing the actual graphic novels, it feels like they should move on/away from Herschel's farm to get the story going again.

this might be the first time in its two seasons that two of three consecutive episodes were good. yet now people are dropping off?

I don't know the graphic novels either, but I was hopeful coming into this second part of the season that the shootout at the barn would cause the folks to leave/be kicked off the farm. But of course, now it seems like they are about to become even more entrenched at the farm.

If they are going to stay on the farm at least they can give us is more episodes like last night's action packed one.

I'm the same, but I almost feel they talked the show into a conclusion in the last episode's in 'hope' soliloquy. Once Rick and Herschel re-affirmed their partnership it felt that they were staying put on the farm, so once Shane dies, there's nothing interesting left for the characters to deal with except living on the farm and killing zombies from time to time. Life goes on, the end.

In the comic they never stay in one place for very long, and even though the show hasn't followed the book very closely, they'll most likely move on from the farm before the end of this season and get to the next place.

And if they do follow the book, the next place will be pretty cool. I'm pretty sure they'll find a way to screw it up, though.

There are multiple points in the book where it feels like this could happen, but then something forces them to move on.

the producers have apparently confirmed that michonne will be in the 3rd season, so i'm looking forward to that.

also, darabont is gone and glen mazzara has taken over the show. so i'm willing to give him a few episodes to get things on track.

I'm glad to hear that the possibility is present. My imagination takes me to lots of interesting scenarios and I'm not even remotely creative.

Yea, I've read/heard various comments that perhaps Darabont just couldn't translate his feature film style to a weekly tv sreies. Glen Mazzara is a tv vet, so I'm hopeful that his influence will be seen by the end of this season. Darabont left/quit/was fired after the first half of season 2 right? These are all Mazzara eps from what I understand.

yes. it's my understanding that the break in season 2 was due to the showrunner switch, as well as getting the series in november and february for sweeps.

I've yet to become attached to any of the characters in 2 1/2 seasons, save for Shane, who we keep being force-fed that he's "evil." Oh, I think he may have killed Otis! Are we supposed to feel bad about that? If it weren't for him leaving tubby for dead, the kid wouldn't have survived.

Honestly, the final straw for me was when they stopped to try to save the guy who impaled his leg on the wrought iron fence. That was so implausible. Zombies closing in around them, and having just killed two of the guy's companions, and they decide to try to save him. So fucking dumb.

YES. This made no sense. I understand that Rick is the moral compass of the show and he is still adjusting to living in a zombie apocalypse, but to insist on a vet performing spontaneuous limb removal surgery as zombies are closing in is just dumb. Add in the fact that the kid was just taking potshots at them from the roof and it just made no sense.

there are only two more episodes this season, so i'm going to hope for a turnaround in those, but tonight's episode was a big step back from the previous few weeks that were actually compelling television.

also, i really wish that television show casting didn't make such big news. amc putting out a press release saying that they've cast someone as the governor for season 3 is good news, but also totally a spoiler. now i'm just wondering how they'll butcher that storyline. although, i'm really curious to know if they run with the gory details about his "daughter" in the books.

There are so many "gory details" from that story arc... I guess they're going to find out just how much they can get away with on a cable TV show.

Or they're going to chicken out and neuter it completely.

I thought last night was pretty compelling. The stuggle of all the characters to deal with the morality and humanity of killing the hostage.

There are things about this show that annoy me (how many ways can you "act" scared, concerned, etc) but I can't stop watching it. I'm now ready for Carl to get eaten.

It's better than the shitshow that Eastbound & Down has been this season.

Did everyone give up on this? Because the last two episodes (and the end of the 11th) were fucking great.

The season finale was entertaining. So out of how many episodes, that makes two good ones: the pilot and this.

I guess I'm not as pessimistic about this show as you are. Granted, a lot of them have been boring, but it seems like it's been picking up a little better.

I really, really want to like it. Obviously that's why I keep watching. I love the premise. There's just zero story and zero character development.

Yeah, what a morality struggle! Just to be clear, we are talking about the guy they've tortured mercilessly up to that point, right? Shoved pistols in his mouth, and at point even got him down to his knees and asked him what his last words were. All of that was much more humane than just killing him outright. But watching their struggle over deciding whether or not to kill that dude, just compelling and fantastic writing.

I'm still with it. The Michonne reveal (who I found out about by watching Talking Dead post-show talker) was fucking awesome. It was the first time I felt like I was watching a show based on a comic.

That show is a disgrace. I'm so sick of the overuse/reliance of slow-mo scenes. Hey David Gordon Green, we get your "style" and it sucks. I'm sure every ex-Southern fratter Panic fan out there just thinks it's brilliant. Especially those who relate to Kenny Power's sociopathic narcissism.

Yes, we're talking about Randall and I think the torture of him was kind of to the larger point. No one besides Shane or Daryl touched him or even had much contact with him (other than Rick and Carl). Everyone just avoided the actual reality of the situation and wanted someone else to make the decision. They ignored it hoping it would just go away. The real struggle was Rick going between Dale's compassion and Shane's pragmatism. Ultimately we are given the 2 ton kick of reality when.......SPOILER.......................Dale gets killed and Rick kills Shane. They've officially been detached from their former morality and the world they once knew.

All this with only 1 zombie in that whole episode. I thought it was briliant.

In fact, I feel that the whole 2nd season was them trying to hold on to the world they once knew at the farm, only to have it become painfully clear that that will be impossible. Despite about 3 pretty boring episodes there in the middle of the season, the last 2 were genuinely entertaining and I'm back on board for next season for sure.

the one thing i'll say for this show is that the cinematography is occasionally great. the full moon showdown between rick and shane looked awesome, even if it was totally hokey. the reveal of the zombie herd approaching rick and carl at the end of that episode was also great. the attack in the finale was well done. the characters are weak, but you have to remember there's been a lot of turmoil behind the scenes. they switched showrunners in the middle of a season and i believe they've had a complete rehaul of the writing staff. but i will say that season 3 needs to come out of the gate swinging.

out of 13 episodes this season, i'd say maybe 4/5 were good or better.

still, lori needs to go. she is such a bad character.
