Oh I didn't tell you what to do about #1 if that's an issue... next time you change strings, take the end of the B string and use it to clean out the plain string slots. Shove the sharp end of it carefully through there and scratch / push out any crap. For the wound satrings, I just take the old string itself and "saw" it gently through a few times, being careful not to actually deepen the slot. Then drop a tiny bit of whatever oil you've got around in it.

Something else that it took me years to start using is a string winder...really helps in keeping tension on the string with one hand while you wind with the other.

The more I look at it, the more I think that it might be the purtiest guitar that I've ever seen.

So do they spell out the Gretsch White Falcon homage, or is it just implied? Because... that's a white falcon tele if I ever seen one.

I don't know if they spell it out or not. I've only seen the pics -- the guitars haven't been delivered yet.
But, as Fender has apparently acquired Gretsch, I think that that there will be any legal issue there.
And I totally agree with your assessment.

I just don't like any hardware that isn't nickel. But I especially don't like gold hardware. Still, that scheme is about the only way to do gold hardware and not look too gaudy.

I generally don't like gold hardware either. But... something about that guitar.

The white headstock, the binding on the body, and the block inlays are just so great. Makes me want to build another tele just so I can do that.

Jerry Jones used to but the factory appears to now be closed.

Which knobs do we like better... the chickenheads it came with, or the cylinders the original amp had?

Welp, I finally fucking painted the front panel. Local artsy type folks recommended paint pens, and while they got it done, they leave faint lines instead of a smooth flat surface. It looks fine, and more than anything I am happy it's fucking ready to be bolted together again. It's been, what two years? Jeeesus. Gonna bolt it together as soon as I get 30 minutes and take pics.

Here's what I wound up with. Not professional grade, but it's mine. And it sounds amazing.

Had to wait like a week between colors, and used masking tape to pinstripe the white box. Paint pens, as I mentioned, were not as awesome as I'd been told.

With time and motivation, I could pull the grill back out, cut off some cloth, re-staple, etc to make it smoother. But this kind of cloth is too stiff really to make those bends, ever. It's meant to be framed, I have discovered. So here it shall probably stay.

Plugged the mexi strat into it (which has lace sensors in it from waaay back, red in the bridge / silver mid / gold neck) and holy fuck they get along well. The silver mid pickup was incredible. It's like the texas specials in the american strat are too raw for it. That was a nice surprise.

They had a lefty one that they had ordered for someone and it never got picked up at the GC in Fayetteville. Not sure of the model but it had a Bigsby. I thought it played pretty well but I didn't spend a ton of time with it. The main knock on some of their guitars is the pickups, but that's fairly easily fixed.

They make some cool looking guitars at good prices; I would totally own one.

It came into the shop and I got to actually play it last night. It plays as good as it looks. Sounds great, too. Too bad I won't have the money saved up for the thing before it gets snatched up by somebody else.
Still, it was nice to play it for a little bit before it became somebody else's baby.

update on my tele post recording session:

it was a little thin on rhythm tracks, we ended up using the stuios tele with had a richer tone. That might have been because he had heavier really old strings, which fits my idea of good rhythm sound.

when recording leads I felt like I was one with the guitar and it was the guitar I was born to play, it felt and sounded incredible.

Fender MIM Reggie Hamilton Standard Jazz Bass

After voluntarily smashing my P-Bass Deluxe five years ago, I've periodically scanned Craigslist for Fender basses that always seemed overpriced for the condition. So after researching and checking shit out, I settled on this fucker which sounds great and appears to be the best bang for the buck. I've never set up a guitar before, but after doing some reading, I can't believe I paid people to do this shit for me in the past.
