and some of these people are definitely old enough to have their asses kicked for this. there was just a few where i thought ... dang that kid is toast now.

OR maybe they're at the right age to get the wake up call. i just hope that none of these kids get murdered.

I started down the same line as Cats and then I realized these are facebook posts and more commonly tweets. They've already hung themselves. This just makes it happen faster.

Fuck 'em.

Cats, posting under the influence helped but really I was primed yesterday for that response because I had a 65 year old employee relate a story of himself as a pedro pan refugee being abused as a foster kid from family to family in the states as a 12 year old because he could not speak english. The guy ended up going to UF raising great kids and still works his ass off between the pain of his aging. And when I hit that url, I was done. I'm sick of hate. It is spewed to incite. And has been an engine of inspiration to groups of people that have subjected this country to the zaniest crap I could have ever imagine. That and a very sad personal week just had me at it. From what I know of you here, you have always been a good person that I felt jibed with my sensibilities and fairness. I apologize if you felt I was heavy handed with my response, but glad and even figured you would come around to it a little bit.

Correct response. FUH.

0.000% chance that some of my cousins haven't said the same, but probably not via twitter or facebook.

hoo boy...thanksgiving...where shall we start

yesterday, i learned that my uncle - a lifelong 'committed christian who loves the lord' - won't shake hands with the democrats in his own church. (he KNOWS which ones they are). thinks mormonism is a cult, yet emphatically declared mormons to be a very moral people (the obvious implication being that democrats are not). absolutely believes that 'obamaphones' broadcast instructions to millions and millions of D voters to get up at noon, pick up a welfare check, go home and watch oprah and do drugs til 3 in the morning. he hates the internet, won't use it, doesn't trust GPS. runs a small local trucking company and regales us all in the tales of him dressing down visiting drivers who got lost using GPS ("ever heard of a MAP?") ...because it takes them to his old office, because the GPS POI hasn't been updated...because he doesn't use the internet. considers himself an intellectual because he can not only selectively quote passages from secular texts such as 'Origin of Species,' but somehow (and smugly irritatingly so) knows the exact page number as well. begins every third sentence with "those people...."

needless to say, he leads a miserable lonely life where only 3 of his 4 kids will even speak to him, one of which actually eloped to socialist france and is probably never coming home.

i'm not particularly close to this uncle, so i figure i can be critical. how do these people exist? why do these people exist?

Without the internet, how does he get his information? Just AM radio and Fox News or does he subscribe to olde timey mimeographed hate tracts as well?

My half brother was like that up until 5 or 6 years ago. At some point in the middle of the Bush years (and after his divorce) he basically renounced Right Wing radio and Fox News and a lot of his previously held beliefs and married a black chick. He's still crazy as hell and won't join the Postal Workers Union (which my dad is convinced will be his ultimate downfall) and his kids won't talk to him but that's another story.

Plus he lives in Florida where abhorrent and crazy behavior is a way of Life so no one even notices.

the internet, in his own words, is "a bathroom wall." (the entire internet)

so yea, he gets everything through am radio...mainly bill cunningham and rush. no tv in that household.

the whole "kids won't talk to him" thing in both our case studies baffles me...

He sounds AWESOME. I've mentioned this on the board and on the podcast, but one of my favorite Moments in Yail Bloor History was him taking down a Jesus freak right winger friend of mine point by point. You could actually watch the guy's balloon deflate.

No, I couldn't recreate it if I wanted to, but it involved knowing more about the Bible and what's actually in it and what comes from Paradise Lost and The Inferno, etc.. It were a thing of beauty, though. A bright spot in the "Lost Weekend" years.
