I liked that flick, FR. I thought it did a good job of weaving the stories together, and generally being quirky enough without it seeming like they script doctored every scene for the maximum amount of "Is this quite off kilter enough."

I can't decide if Aubrey Plaza is hot or not, though. And, I believe this film is actually a fictionalized version of The Life of Radcliffe.

Spoiler kinda:What was up with the deformity? They brought it up and then didn't really go into it. Also, apparently they digitally made an actor disappear from the dinner table with her dad, which made them rework some of the film because there were allusions to him throughout.

Coupla years ago, a fb friend from highschool posted a picture of herself, her husband, and AP in bathing suits, standing near a beach somewhere in CA. She didn’t caption it or anything, but I totally recognized her. Two seconds later her husband comments “Hey she said not to post this!!!” and it got taken down.

I think that the a lot of her hotness (for me) comes from just a great screen presence; from her talent. She was hysterical in Scott Pilgrim and great in Safety Not Guaranteed and Mystery Team.
Kinda a similar situation to Tina Fey. Both are definitely attractive, but they are so awesome that it elevates them to hot.

I understand that. But then I see her with say, Olivia Munn....

I went into this knowing full well what it was going to be. And, that's ok--because as someone who played lacrosse from elementary school to college, I'm still in love with the game and what comes from it. The fact is, lacrosse as a sport is growing exponentially in non-traditional areas (California, Colorado, Arizona) and because of this there is a thirst for media dealing with it. There's been films about all sorts of fringe sports, but lacrosse has always alluded moviegoers. So, in comes the filmmakers of Crooked Arrow. They got lax players involved, they got lax coaches involved, they hit rec and prep programs hard. Word got out, and it got released wide.

The problem is, its a pretty formulaic film. In fact, it takes a lot from one of the only other lacrosse films--The Creator's Game from 1999. Interestingly enough, it has the same Native American vs. Prep high school (read: white) storyline. The acting is horrible, which isn't surprising since 70% of the actors in the film were lacrosse players, not actors. I will say though that the game sequences were shot amazingly, which is tough because of the speed of the game. Much like hockey, there is so much going on at one time.

If this leads to more films being made about lacrosse, then I'm for it. But in the meantime, watch The Morgan Lacrosse Story doc (which I hear is in the works to become a film), or some of the great short docs on youtube like this:

don't believe the hype

i didn't dislike it this much. but i don't think it's great and it's highly unlikely to age very well. i'll chalk this up as yet another movie with a handful of terrific scenes that comes up short overall.

also, ebert's review refers to something that doesn't happen and i don't think is even really implied, which makes me think there was editing between some of the early cuts and what made it into theaters.

saw Killing Them Softly yesterday.

I thought it was good, but considering the list of actors involved, I expected so much more.
It kind of dragged and the dialogue wasnt interesting enough to warrant all those long drawn out talking scenes...

the action/killing scenes though were terrific and awesomely filmed though!

Saw Lincoln over the weekend and really liked it. DDL is some next level shit as an actor.

the action scenes were GREAT, the dialogue scenes were EXCRUCIATINGLY LONG AND BORING

ultimately, what proved to be this movie's downfall was the non-stop shoehorning in of all the bush and obama speeches throughout, in a desperate attempt to draw parallels that really only existed in the most minimally tangential of ways

Read an article this morning about the cussing in Lincoln, and whether its realistic or not for the time period. Haven't seen it yet, so don't know if it feels anachronistic or not--but its true, you never do really hear heavy language (cursing) in historical films.

Still want to see Lincoln, and then I heard about Bill Murray as FDR in Hyde Park on Hudson, and now I want to check that out too. Still need to see Skyfall. I'm rotten about catching movies. All I've seen this year is The Master.

i actually thought about that with the one joke referenced in the article while i was watching the movie. i just figured it was based on a similar joke and updated for language since modern audiences wouldn't've understood it otherwise. and the joke with james spader's character saying "fuck" is probably the biggest laugh in the movie, so i had no problem with that.

Just watched Savages. Benicio del Toro and Salma Hayek were great. I don't think they got a nod for GG today, but hopefully they'll get a look for Oscar noms. Story was interesting, but I couldn't help but think someone like Michael Mann could've made it a whole lot better. Didn't realize the one guy (Ben) was the actor from Kick Ass.

Saw the Hobbit on friday for the Mrs's birthday. Predictably it should not be 3 movies, and it gets a little slow / repetitive (another sword fight), but it's enjoyable for what it is. At the time I felt more "meh" but a day or two later I kinda think I liked it. Guy who played Thorin was a bad choice, but young Bilbo is awesome.

Has anyone seen the Hobbit in 48fps?

I'm actually pretty curious about the look.

i saw the movie in 48 FPS and thought that it was pretty good technically. the movie was in line with the quality of the LOTR trilogy. There were a few cringeworthy things I would have edited out, though (everything to do with the fucking brown wizard and his rabbit sleigh).

That guy got VASTLY expounded upon for the sake of expanding the length.

i'm sure a naturalist stoner who lives in the woods and loves animals is going to be my sister's favorite character, though.
