It immediately popped into my head too that Barry would probably coach the team in the Rose Bowl.

Tis true:

http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... elema-says

Underdog, five-loss, unranked Wisconsin trounced 12th-ranked Nebraska by a 39-point margin, ended up as Big Ten Champions, and will play in their third straight Rose Bowl under old man Barry Alvarez who'll give it another go-'round after their dickhead coach unexpectedly quit before the big game -- all taking place over the course of five days. If the Badgers somehow manage to beat Stanford, it'll all play out like the plot of a shitty predictable football movie.

Guess I should post something with regards to the bowls tomorrow since I'm not sure I'll be able to post tonight or tomorrow.

How you feeling Prom? I'm honestly not terribly motivated for the game but losing it would mean losing a lot of momentum the program has going right now. We're going to be missing our big noseguard, John Jenkins, due to academic ineligibility and his backup, Abry Jones, is questionable. That guys helps make the 3-4 D go. It'll be interesting to see who comes out motivated since half our Defense is already thinking about the Draft. I think we pull it out but it's going to be close I think.

Bowl season has be typically BLECH so far but i have some mild interest in these games:

LSU/Clempson
FSU/N. Illinois
UF/UL
KSU/Oregon
A&M/OU
Bama/ND

I only care about the FSU and Florida games to see if there will be an upset. I think there is a chance one will be.

Also, the national media is trying to build up this Notre Dame team as one that could pull the upset but I"m just not buying it.

I think they're clearly better than anyone thought at the beginning of the year and I think they'll put up a fight for a half but the depth of Bama will pull away in the end.

I'm just not impressed with their resume and I think they beat Stanford before they really got it going (they replaced their QB mid-season after the ND game).

Of course, I could be wrong.

Unfortunately for ND, I think Bama being only -10 is being generous to ND. I think something in the range of 27-10, Bama.

ND is my last hope of salvaging what's been just a heinously shitty past 12 months in sports for me. And there's like maybe 3% chance they pull it off.

I'll say during that 3rd quarter when they were just gashing us with the run I was like "clearly they've seen the Bama game tape".

Gurley/Marshall tandem may be the best combo in college football next year.

This would have been a much more enjoyable game to watch if it hadn't been played at noon on New Year's Day.
It was fun reading Loogar's commentary on Facebook while I was still awake, and I went bonkers on the pick six by Compton early in the game.
It was competitive for three quarters, but Nebraska simply didn't have the studs in the defensive backfield to compete with the Georgia offense, and the Husker offense sort of folded after that allegedly controversial fumble play.
I didn't see most of the game. I took a nap after Gurley gave the Dawgs a 24-13 lead in the first half, and awoke to the Huskers trailing 45-31 with about five minutes to play.
I never gave Nebraska much of a chance, and gave Georgia a ton of confidence points in my bowl pick em.
I'm a bit bummed the Huskers blew the lead, but since I never expected them to stay within three points of Georgia, I can't really complain.

When would you have preferred they play it? I was a big breakfast, 2 Bloody's and a Founder's Porter deep by kick off.

I became a 36yr old man who would rather spend a Saturday afternoon brewing beer or attending a craft beer event than I would watching a husker game with a bunch of amateur drunks who have become exceedingly irrational about a college football team.
It also doesn't help matters much when you are a socially liberal hipster and the majority of the Husker fan base tends to be insular, right wing fanatics.
I would have liked to watch the game later in the day, or preferably on a day that didn't follow a serious amount of drinking. I didn't go to sleep until 2:30am and awoke at 11:00am to begin consuming mass amounts of coffee. I still would have flipped through the channels and watched other games once the Huskers started to trail, but I wouldn't have taken a nap.
Don't get me wrong I still love my huskers, but I ain't going to give myself an early heart attack because my team isn't currently contending for its sixth national title.

The Kübler-Ross model, commonly referred to as the "five stages of grief"

1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance

Over halfway through the grieving process bud. Only a few more years of the Huskers getting shit on will set you free!

I think I'd have to flee the state before I could ever fully cut the cord.
The Huskers have a really easy schedule next year that is front loaded with an excessive amount of home games, so there are a few analysts out there that are placing them in a contenders spot next season.
I'm expecting this offseason to be even more brutal than it was last year, and the inevitable fall during the season to be even more demoralizing to the die-hards.
The Huskers would have to be far worse than they were under Callahan for it to truly faze me, but I'm certain a probationary period and/or a Sandusky like scandal would help me reach Acceptance in about a minute.

Are there coaches that purposefully stay at the collegiate level? I fear that SU is going to lose our coach to the NFL.

There are quite a few out there that never really had the ambition to be a head coach in the NFL and some that spend most of their career jumping from college to college in search of a mythical National Championship.
Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech comes to mind, as do Urban Meyer and Bill Snyder.
Mack Brown and Bob Stoops have been hesitant to jump to the Pro level, and guys like Chris Petersen at Boise State seem more apt to wait for a job at BCS powerhouse to open up.

Man, they were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky to have played A&M early in the season. Aggies would have lit their asses UP once October/November rolled around.

Well, this Notre Dame thing was fun while it lasted. DUNZO.

At least my wife is happy.

This could be the ugliest BCS National Title game since my Huskers backed into that beatdown against Miami in 2001 or the vacated 2004 National Title when USC completely annihilated the Sooners.
