You didnt ask for it, but you're getting it lol Besides i had nothing else to do tonight.
Here are my favorite 35 bands/artists of all time, in order. Judged by what ive listened to the most, what means the most to me, and simply what i think is the best music!

12. Matthew Good
13. Modest Mouse
14. Radiohead

I like 7, 8, 10, 13, 14, 18, 22, 28, 33, and 34. That is to say I own albums by them and enjoy listening to them. I don't know if any of them would make my top 35 - maybe the Pixies. Maybe a few others in my top 100.

Then there's a short list of Young, Dylan, Petty, New Order. I don't own anything but probably should. Don't have anything against 'em.

Then there's 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 17, 19, 20, 23, 24, 26, 27, 32, 34 = no thanks.

I don't know 2, 11, 15, 21, 25, 30.

I too have some time to kill.

Ha! I think I'm gonna stick it out a bit longer. I even tried to make my own personal mix of my favorite Dylan tracks, but it went on the back burner for some reason. Besides, based on dangerbird's rankings, I should be looking into Neil Young first! Although I do have a CSNY album, does that count?

My gf has several cds. I'm going to listen to them tonight and report back.
"The Will To Death" is the first I found.
Sounds like someone who doesn't know how to sing.

thanks for the feeback, interesting to see what you like and dont. Id definitely hear some stuff from Neil, Dylan, Petty, and New Order, surprised that you havent. If you like what you hear from Neil, Dylan, and Petty, Bruce Cockburn would be a good one to try too

cool, id stay away from his recent two electornica releases, just a mess. His first two releases are drug addled and experimental, not a great starting point. Everything in between is fantastic.

drug-addled and experimental sounds a billion times better than what i'm digesting on "the will to death"

this album is high school.

ok this album is high school.

'will to death' is one of my least favorites, lacks melody. The Empyrean, To Record Only Water for Ten Days, Shadows Collide with People, Ataxia, Inside of Emptiness, and Curtains are all great. If you dont like those, then you just dont like Frusciante.

I dunno. that's a certifiable shitty record.

I'm jamming some ashlee simpson and that beats the shit out of that "will to death" record.

Amongst that list, give me the one album I should listen to because Will To Death was a deal breaker.

Re: John Frusciante
Only heard bits and pieces of his solo stuff. Not crazy about him, but I guess that I can kinda see the appeal. Cool, creative guitar playing and a strange p.o.v.

The rest of your list is hit-and-miss for me.

I get the feeling this list was capped at 35 because #36 was Nickelback.

Ya know, there's probably more bands on that list that I can't stand than bands I like. But I still much prefer seeing lists like this that represent what people really listen to and enjoy instead of curated lists that are less personal and more about some vague canon of rock.

Also, Frusciante sucks and ruined the Chili Peppers. Hillel Slovak all the way.

Try either The Empyrean or To Record Only Water for Ten Days. I think brilliant, but somehow im expecting you to hate them.

We might share the same #1, but after that, holy shit do our tastes diverge.

I'm not even sure if Neil would be my #1 anymore. I find myself kind of losing touch with and becoming less certain of what of my all-time favorites are these days.

I'm having a hard time ranking artists like Neil and Bowie that I still respect and love, but hardly ever listen to anymore.

I don't think I could rank a top 5 in order, not to mention 35.
