So I do this gig at this bar on Tuesdays where I play crazy music and host bingo. Yes, bingo. People laugh until they play. There is nothing funnier than some 25 year old hottie yelling "Call the fucking numbers asshole!" while I puff a Camel and "Love Comes In Spurts" blares out of the PA.

Anyway, now that I have an ipod I figure I'll use it since all ive been doing up till now is using a CD changer with mixed discs and my mixer as a crude "fader".

The question:
Would it be best to set the iPod's EQ to "FLAT"? This would be be the signal chain:
iPod-->Mixer-->EQ-->Compressor-->BBE Sonic Maximizer-->Power Amp

Yeah, Dalen, I threw it out because I though that you did.

That's what I thought though. In addition to the 3band on the mixer, I've got a 32 band (16 per side) EQ in my rack. Shit, you can fix most problems on the quick with one of the two knobs on that Sonic Maximizer. I can't explain what that thing does.....but I know it does somethin real good. :D

Update: I ended up using the "Rock" EQ setting instead of "Flat" mainly because it seemed to have a little more punch; I had no problem twisting knobs and sliders----it sounded REALLY good actually.

I think it's awesome you host a bingo night. I've only been to an official bingo night twice in my life but it's a blast! I laughed until I played, now I'm a believer. My college was in a blue-collar city so there were "bingo halls" devoted exclusively to the game. Some of the oddest people showed up to bingo night, it was fantastic.

As for the iPod question, try using the click wheel to scratch when you DJ.

I think I'm going to mention that to the higher-ups at the club where I DJ every time they put one of those damn sorority date parties in my room. I know one of those girls has an I-pod, just put all the shit you want to hear on it rather than making me hunt it up high and low.

nice concept, but buying TWO FUCKING IPODS?

No way dude, you could buy some turntables and a CD DJ kit.

But still, I'm intrigued.

yeah, there's a bunch of products trying to get the interface or feel of traditional djing with the convenience of modern technology. as i posted in my thread over yonder about the hip-hop show i went to on tuesday, the dj used this setup:
[img][483:500]http://www.turntablelab.com/eq/pics/rane-serato-cu3.gif[/img]
which eliminated the records altogether, you just use special ones to allow you to pitch, scratch or adjust the songs manually, which themselves are stored on the laptop. i thought that for a hip-hop show it was kind of cheap not to have to deal with records, but i suppose that it sounded ok. under some circumstances it could be really helpful.

they started a dj night w/ ipods here last week. i guess you get like 15 minutes to play whatever you want but it's at a sort of lame sports-ish bar. i'm tempted to bring mine and make a tracklist of Whitehouse, The Locust, something off of one of Patton's solo albums and put a Depeche Mode song first just to sucker them in.

Krauth, call my ass tonight, dawg. I'm rolling in to town around 10:30pm for Elf Power/OTC.

About the iPod Dj thing.... There was something like that going on in Nashville for a while, but it died out due to lack of interest. Sometimes this town is stupid. I also went to a loft party in Williamsburg (no, really, I'm not kidding) where dudes were spinning the worst fucking music ever. I mean, isn't this place supposed to be cool? Anyway, they were using a tiny mixer/shelf speakers, but I didn't pay attention to the presets.

I don't know if any of this is making any sense. It's 5:30am and I"m still toasted.

Shit, I don't have your # anymore; PM me, or call me---I believe I emailed you with it last week.
