They made the right move kicking him out of the game but any report that says the guy was taking a swipe at Sheffield is COMPLETE GARBAGE.

I've read it described as an uppercut to Sheffield on the AP. Bullshit. The guy was making a half assed attempt to scoop up the ball. An offense that should get you kicked out if the ball is in play.

Any attempt to say that it was malicious is crap IMO.

Folks are making a story out of nothing. That fence has been at that level for what, 100 years or so. There have been people coming out of the stands and stabbin coaches and they're gonna make a big deal out of this?

Sorry but most national newspaper reports have been annoying me this morning.

i'm sure many ball players are dicks. I think given the situation and the setting sheffield acted the same way many players would have. not that it's necessarily right, but if some one hits you intentional or not, in a hostile environment such as that, you're gonna react.

Yeah, I don't think Sheffield reacted unreasonably in this case.

I just think's he's a dick, in general.

I can't believe I haven't heard one person mention the guy right near the incident who was drinking the beer. He makes the lamest attempt of pretending like someone hit has arm as he tosses his beer on Sheffield. You can see him immediately mouth "what the f%$#?" as he then proceeds to smile.

The guy tosses a full beer on and gets away with it. I think that's why Sheffield was so upset. He probably thought the guy who swiped for the ball also dumped the beer on him.

That was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. I implore everyone to watch the incident again and take a look at the bad acting from the guy left of the scene with his beer. Pure comedy. I don't think he got kicked out either.

i just watched it again on espn motion. it looks like the lady to the dudes left fell into his beer holdin arm, which made him dump his beer.

oh shit, nevermind, i watched it yet again, and it looks like with a quick flick of the wrist he did intentionally spill the beer. oh you sneaky redsox fans

You can totally see his wrist fling the beer forward. What seals it is the fact that he mouths "What the F%$#?" like he had been hit and then starts smirking and looking back.

So funny.

Bosox need to field Flutie and Brady.

Even though the beer probably cost $8 i'm guessing it was worth every penny getting away with dumping it over Sheffield.

It was worth it to me.

As if I thought there could be any possible way I could hate the RedSox and some of thier fans more.....

Rick, I watched the replay 100 x...The guy in the stands swiped at Sheff's hat/face or something....He wasnt close to attempting to go after the ball....

and the woman who tossed the beer.. F' her too....

By woman do you mean man in black shirt. The lady just spilled beer on herself. Watch again.

Yankee fans in the outfield who hurl batteries, change and anything else at opposing teams' outfielders as they warm up are so much classier.

If the exact same incident went down in the Royals-Mariners game yesterday, it might have received one or two replays. This is completely overblown.

Some writer said a couple of years ago that if Sheffield hadn't become a baseball player, he would be the last face someone sees as a trunk of a car closes on top of them and I believe it.

the people who do that at Yankee stadium or any sporting event are just as big of assholes. don't make it look like I think Yankee fans are any more innocent at times. all sporting teams have their classless fans....this thread was about this incident.

I totally agree. He wasn't within 3 feet of the ball. If he was going after the ball he had to be smashed out of his gord to be off by so much. I think anyone who says it wasn't intentionally malicious is just wrong, not that he was landing some closed fist upper cut or anything.

And anyone who takes any pleasure in the incident should remember its stuff like this that causes teams to end beer sales earlier and earlier in games.

One bright side was the sox security guard who was right on top of the incident and immediately up and into the stands between sheffield and the fans. Nice that they got someone on the field level who isn't distracted by trying to start shit with Yankee players in the bullpen for a change.
