I'll ban you for your insolence.

Maybe I'll check out the whole album.

Yeah, brassneck would have been nice. I don't mind the heavy-on-the-new-stuff approach, but c'mon, Dave, brassneck, dude. I didn't ask as he has a history of being curmudgeonly about it 'I don't come into your work and holler Big Mac at you,' he once retorted.

No Take Me, no Montreal... as the man said, they have a heck of a back catalogue and it won't all fit. I may go to the Roxy in May, see if we get a different slice.

They were pretty great, better than I expected. What all was there from Bizarro? I only remember Kennedy and What Have I Said Now? myself. Gedge is rocking it at 45, and the new songs were pretty good--I may have to get that album.

You weren't the crazy fighting shouting guy ('play suck, motherfucker!' repeat ad nauseum) who got tossed out, were you? ;)

Haha, that was funny... we were up in the balcony area and saw that dude, it was hilarious.

And it was great to meet ya Shelley! ;)

You too!

Bizarro/Seamonsters = heavy discordant

Watusi = fast & poppy (I think the strokes rip this album off big time)

Is there any truth to this?

I assume you were questioning the strokes rip off part of my post. I phrased that lazily....but the similarities are uncanny.

I submit Shake It from Watusi which came out in 1994 as evidence.

Surprised no one's posted about the show yet. They were pretty great. Played lots from Seamonsters and Bizzarro which was nice. Didn't see anyone else from Obner not that I would really recognize anyone but Tania.

np: Lavern Baker

I was looking for confirmation, but necessarily questioning you in a negative way. I really like that song...I may have to check this out.

As Shelley is aware, I happened to be directly in front of said "crazy fighting shouting guy". He and his pal kept knockin' me on the head, pressing their sweaty drunken bodies against me...until I finally got fed up, turned around and said, 'RESPECT MY SPACE, YOU FUCKIN' ASSHOLE!!' At which time, one of the buddies says, "But, he loves you". Me: "I DON'T GIVE A FUCKIN' SHIT, REEEEEEE.SPECT.MY.SPACE". I was ready to get my Turbo Kickboxing Aerobic class expertise loose on those freaks.

Billy, damn, sorry that I missed seeing you. It's been far too long since we've last seen each other.

The show was indeed great -- 21 songs and no encore! I thought they started a bit rough, but once they got their groove going, there was no stopping them. Hell, I would be a bit rough too if I hadn't slept in 25 hours. (Per Mr. Gedge, they were fresh off a transatlantic flight.) I'll be honest, I barely remember their performance the last time I'd seen them, lo, these 10 years or so ago, but last night, was definitely a stellar show. Even my friend, Diane, who knew very little about 'em, walked away completely impressed (received an email today -- "Tania, I'm buying a couple of their albums this weekend! Thank you for advising me to go!") Yes, another Weddoes convert!

Here's the setlist for those interested:

Interstate 5 (Take Fountain)
Crawl (Singles 1989 - 1991)
Drive (Mini)
Queen Anne (Take Fountain)
GoGo Dancer (The Hit Parade)
Starry Eyed (Cinerama -- Torrino)
Spangle (Watusi)
My Favourite Dress (George Best)
Venus (Saturnalia)
Health & Efficiency (Cinerama -- Torrino)
It's For You (Take Fountain)
Queen of Outer Space (Hit Parade 2)
Careless (Cinerama -- Torrino)
I'm From Further North Than You (Take Fountain)
Kennedy (Bizarro)
Perfect Blue (Take Fountain)
Once More (Tommy -- this song rocked so fuckin' hard -- my personal fave of the show)
Ringway to Seatac (Take Fountain)
Dalliance (Seamonsters)
Dare (Seamonsters)
What Have I Said Now (Bizarro)

I took the liberty of listing which albums the songs are from.

Sorry but I find the singing voice of David Gedge to be so utterly objectional that I simply can't bare to listen to anything he's ever done.

John Peel was a wonderful, wonderul man but if I had a complaint it would be that he played a Weddos/Cinerama track every fourth song for about twenty years.

Harsh! Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought he had a kinda sexy voice. Perhaps male voices are never sexy to you and so that's no help.

I think security gave those to us because there was no room to stand on the floor since we were so late. We just happened to get lucky I guess.

I've got a stack of those loft passes. For years, I never knew what it was like to go up to the loft cuz I had no interest. I only go up there now if I'm trying to chase some cute guy down. ;)

Has a video feed of an earlier gig on this tour. It's the same setlist, and not as good of a show IMO as the one we saw, but if you weren't lucky enough to be there...
