I've never seen Aliens before.

I'm thinking about picking it up tonight and correcting my unfortunate situation. The strange thing is that I saw the original movie Alien, but the sequel just never popped into my head whenever I visited a movie rental store.

It's cool. When you're watching, try to block out the fact the hundreds of crappy sci-fi flicks have ripped it off over the years.

Aliens is great, the following sequels are unworthy follow-ups

The first one is fucking CREEPY. The second one is downright awesome (Space Marines and Horny Sigourney Weaver's Alien Beaver vs. those nasty scaly fuckers.

The others devolve into shite.

Paxton is a revelation in Aliens. Chet as Space Marine = Qual.

Ha! I just quoted Chet in the other thread. And he's equally awesome in Aliens "We're fuckin' dead, man, we're TOAST!"

Wow. I've probably seen this movie more than any other. My mom actually took me to see it in the theaters when I was younger.

I liked Alien3 a lot and Alien Resurrection was pretty good up until they showed that alien/human hybrid, which totally ruined the movie for me because of how bad it looked.

But yeah, neither of them are nearly as good as the first and second.

See the reconstructed version that was recently released. It follows David Fincher's vision a lot more closely than what Fox ended up doing (butchering, basically.) It's rough - it's put together from unfinished material, but the storyline and action is much smarter than what was eventually released in theaters. Not a classic like the original was, and not as fun as Aliens, but you can certainly see some serious potential. And I seriously love the "dog alien," except for its unexplained ability to stick to the ceilings of things. (The reconstructed version shows that it's really an ox-based alien. Not sure why that was changed by Fox.)

Resurrection is a bit of a joke. Having Joss Whedon write it seemed inspired at the time, but it really shouldn't have been much of a surprise when he filled it up with campy humor. He departed from the lore of the previous three without really putting much effort into making it make sense - like the queen giving birth like a human would? She wasn't one of the hybrids that we'd seen in the lab earlier in the movie, so even trying to pass the white mutant alien off as a genetic experiment doesn't work well. It was just rather dumb, but can be fun at times, too.

A3 was definitely better than AR. Ripley's 'baby' was an abomination in more ways than one.

Joss Whedon worked on the 4th movie? That's crazy.

I haven't seen Resurrection, but I bet Whedon's trademark humor was one of the few good things about it.
