I liked Alien3 a lot
See the reconstructed version that was recently released. It follows David Fincher's vision a lot more closely than what Fox ended up doing (butchering, basically.) It's rough - it's put together from unfinished material, but the storyline and action is much smarter than what was eventually released in theaters. Not a classic like the original was, and not as fun as
Aliens, but you can certainly see some serious potential. And I seriously love the "dog alien," except for its unexplained ability to stick to the ceilings of things. (The reconstructed version shows that it's really an ox-based alien. Not sure why that was changed by Fox.)
Resurrection is a bit of a joke. Having Joss Whedon write it seemed inspired at the time, but it really shouldn't have been much of a surprise when he filled it up with campy humor. He departed from the lore of the previous three without really putting much effort into making it make sense - like the queen giving birth like a human would? She wasn't one of the hybrids that we'd seen in the lab earlier in the movie, so even trying to pass the white mutant alien off as a genetic experiment doesn't work well. It was just rather dumb, but can be fun at times, too.
