holy shit, liars fucking brought it on saturday night. this was the heaviest, most rhythmic show i've been to in a very long time, and probably my favorite show of the past year, at least. if you hated the record, don't bother coming, but if you loved it like i did, you will be amazed with how well liars pull it off live: they play the record almost note for note, and the nearly constant two drum attack creates a kind of tribal, sexual, extremely noisy atmosphere. The band, particularly the frontman Angus, is extremely charismatic. He could have asked the crowd to drink the cool-aid, and they probably would have. I certainly would've been tempted. They played nearly the entirety of Drum's not Dead, and several tracks from their previous record, all of which sounded great. And as a final validation of how ridiculously good this show was, they had the nerve to cover 'breed' by Nirvana. Normally, if a band at a show I was at covered a Nirvana song, it would be grounds for leaving, immediately. However, it totally fit and it sounded great. It's still a bit pretentious, but they're a bit pretentious anyway. All things considered, fucking ridiculously good show, will probably enter my top 10 all time show list...
And in a random note, the place was crawling with scenesters and musicians, the most notable being the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I've never been up close to Karen O before, but in person she is very cute and impossibly thin. Nick Zinner is pretty little too, but I expected this.
