So, I have to move across the country, in June, when it's hot and things warp and melt, especially things I may never find on vinyl again. Is the interior of a big truck hot enough that I should be concerned? Is the deck of my CRX likely to be any better or worse? I get vinyl in the post fairly often and it's never been heat damaged that I could tell; am I being paranoid?

if i had vinyl and i were really paranoid about this, i'd put 'em in a big food/beverage cooler, maybe with some ice packs (?)

i would ship the records that you're most concerned about, just to be sure. for the others, pack them in bubble wrap and don't put them along the outer walls of the truck. they should be fine.

Back in the day, all records were surface-shipped from the plant to the distributors to the stores. I don't think a moving van will pose much problem, especially if the truck isn't stopping over anywhere.

I think you should be worried more about direct sunlight contact than the heat itself...but I'd go totally anal & wrap 'em up & keep 'em cool just in case.

I would be more concerned with keeping what you have in the condition that it is in, i.e. packing, than warping from heat, etc.

My parents didn't have much in the way of a record collection, but when I pilfered it in MS-HS, all of the records played well. And my dad told me he moved over 20 times from 70-95, and 9-10 of those were in my lifetime, including to Germany, back to the states, and Korea...so I think you'll be OK.

They say not to lay them flat- to store them on end. Be sure to tell the movers.

I appreciate the reassuring words. It's true that in olden times everything was shipped this way, and the world went on just fine. I'm still going to pack the hell out of 'em.
