Man, I have completely lost interest in the NBA, and honestly haven't seen anything all year besides the artest v. the city of detroit brawl. don't know who's in and who's out.

there have been some pretty cool things about the NBA this season.

at least, from my perspective:
- Toine's return to the Celts and their somewhat rejuvenated play
- Avery Johnson becoming the FT head coach of the Mavs (yep, i am now a Mavs fan, after a fashion)
- the Spurs, healthy
- Shaq and Wade leading the Heat - and the East - into a new period of potential competition with the West
- the Nuggets' second half and the return of George Karl in general
- the Lakers NOT EVEN MAKING THE PLAYOFFS
- the up-and-coming success of teams like the Wizards and the Bulls
- the play of the Cavs before management/ownership fucked the team
- the Pacers pulling it out despite the Artest-Jackson-O'Neal catastrophe
- seeing the Pistons not simply fade out as they seemed close to doing early on

but, some not so good things:
- SLOPPY UNINSPIRED PLAY could be seen in probably every game...compared with the precision of MLB and the NFL, the NBA regular season tends to look like an incessant scrimmage. i've turned off a lot of games out of either boredom or frustration with the level and style of play i've witnessed this season...
- Malik Rose being traded to the dysfunctional anti-team in NY - i hope he either ends up back with the Spurs or with a more reputable organization, 'cause he deserves better
- the "what the hell?" decision to can the coach and GM (?) of the Cavs during a losing stretch on an overall run to the playoffs...not a good sign, unless they have someone in mind for filling the coaching role with command and respect

so.

no curry = no bulls

and i love the bulls. Their time will come though, just not yet...the only problem is they're gonna end up doing something stupid like trading Gordon for someone like Jerry Stackhouse or someone. Or trading away Curry for some oft-injured "veteran". That's the way the Bulls managements does things...

R-Jeff back for end of first round? (if NJ makes it, that is)

The Cavs are so bad it isn't funny. I don't understand why people like Gooden, Mcinnis, and co. don't at least try to help Lebron. The only even slightly decent players on the team or Bron, Tractor, and Varejao.

Is this the first time ever the Clippers have finished ahead of the Lakers?

It will be won by the Spurs, Detroit, or Miami.

i can more or less see your point with all of these (save for the "precision" of the MLB, but that's me), but i think that the most glarring omission is just how amazing the Suns have been; they make it look like they're playing a video game and are often up by 20 at halftime. fun to watch.

I think that, even if I weren't a Chicagoan, I would like the Bulls.
They're well-coached.
They play hard.
And, they are really a Team -- kinda like what people were saying about the Illini in college hoops.

Plus, they have nobody on the team to really hate (Nioccioni, maybe... but he ain't that bad).

sorry, Dri...but it makes me so happy that the egomaniacs Kobe Bryant pretty much single handedly ruined the Laker franchise. loving it....

Im a knicks fan, but for the duration, I'll be going with our cross river friends, the Nets...

I caught the Nuggets/Suns game on Saturday night, and it was ridiculous watching the Suns. Amare had like 1800 dunks in the game, including this one ridiculous alley-oop that Nash threw while catching a lob and falling out of bounds at the same time. It's like if you just throw it by the hoop, Amare or Marion is gonna throw it down.

And the Suns/Sonics game earlier this season was probably the best NBA game I have seen in a while. It was a track meet, with the first to 130 winning.

I'm really excited about this year, because it's pretty unpredictable.

I'd be willing to predict (1st round):
Bulls over Wizards
Heat over whoever
Pistons over whoever
Suns over Grizz
Sacto over Seattle

As much as I love my Spurs, the Nuggs are gonna be some kind of tough. I think we'll win, but it will be a long series. And the Dallas vs Houston series is going to be awesome.

As for Round 2? Who the hell knows, man.

Pistons are going to take it all again, I'm afraid. Blazers should draft Deron Williams.

There's new management, the Bulls have a higher +/- with Curry out, the game they're playing now is much more well rounded right now without Curry. I'm not saying that I wouldn't like to have Curry out there because he does a lot, but it's not the end of the road without Curry. But the management now is too smart to do shit like that now.

As a Spurs fan, I must admit more than a twinge of fear at the prospect of trying to cool off the red-hot Nuggets. The only two teams in the West I think have a legitimate chance of knocking out the Spurs are Denver and Dallas. Houston, Phoenix, and maybe even Memphis would give them a good series, but Seattle and Sacramento are both pretenders.

FT's Homer Call: Spurs escape Denver in 7, brush off Seattle in 5, then...meet Dallas in the West Finals. Right now, that would be a toss-up. The Mavs are DEFINITELY hotter right now.

Interesting wildcards:

Bobby Jackson (Kings) and Richard Jefferson (Nets) are both returning to their lineups this weekend.

And I disagree with FT on Dallas - I think SA would own them in a playoff series. They're good, but I mean come on - Keith Van Horn's on the team. Can you think of any worse way to curse your playoff chances?

it sucks that the cavs traded their first-rounder this year for Aleksandar Pavlovic. i don't remember him really helping out too much.

Once the Bucks drafted him my grandma sent me a "Big Buck" shirt that my girlfriend still wears around the house(it's quite holy). I think it said the "Big Buck" stops here.

Man o man.

Believe me, Tom, in all the years I've lived here in Dallas I've never given the Mavs any chance whatsoever of beating the Spurs come playoff time. But ever since Avery took the reins, those bastards PLAY DEFENSE. Dampier is a quantum leap over anything they've ever had in the middle, Nowitzki is damn near the best player going, and they're the only team around who can match SA's depth. I've seen the Mavs get better and gain confidence with each passing game, while the Spurs fought hard in Duncan's absence but seem to have relaxed too much since his return. Right now, they'd better just worry about beating Denver. That's not even a given.
