New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival starts tomorrow. Anyone going?

I used to go every year but haven't been in 3 or 4 years. This year's lineup looks great though, best in years.

Too many great acts to name but this weekend includes Wilco, Brian Wilson, and a reunited original Meters lineup.

Next weekend in addition to the usual Neville Brothers closing out the festival are Isaac Hayes, Irma Thomas, Eddie Bo, Ike Turner, Elvis Costello, Toots and the Maytals and many others.

I'm really jonesing to go again, but it just doesn't fit my schedule :(

If you get the chance Walter Wolfman Washington is worth the price of admission

I went once, around 98. It was a good time, but we missed whoever it was we were trying to see, and spent a good long time waiting to piss while my friend saved our patch of grass and drank ALL the beer and pissed on the ground, drunk as hell.

As long as you stay away from the big acts like Dave Matthews, it's a reall good time. I got talked into see in Dave Matthews by some friends. We got there early. By the time Dave started I was stuck b/c their were so many people. I had been drinking all day. So I had to pee where I stood. Disgusting.

I feel like I should go, cos its close, but it alsosounds expensive and crowded...nothing I need to experience right now.

Best event food ever. Crawfish toast, alligator jambalaya, Cuban sandwiches all kinds of good shit. It's pricey, but not like $7 for a flat stadium beer and a $6 hot dog under heat lamps. The food ain't cheap, but it's damn good.

Beer was sold in cans kept on ice. They would take the empty 12 pack boxes and put your haul in it. More expensive than usual, but I don't remember it being as bad as usual stadium fare. You could also only buy so many beers at a time, so it kept the line moving. I think the limit was like 8 or 10, but I don't remember.

Oh, and there will be a billion people there, each bringing along a guest or two.

Oh, if I had any spare money, I'd prolly peep it. But right now its unfeasible.

No limit on beer at one time. At least there wasn't two years ago. I bought a case for something stupid like 100 bucks b/c we didn't want to keep fighting the lines. The crowds are bad. Way too many people, but if you stay around the lesser known bands, you can make it work. The crowds don't really get there until later too.

i went last year and had a blast, but honsetly the actual event is the only part that wasn't all that great. It's hard to get close to the band, and if you do the sound isn't all that good. Plus the bus rides back to the hotel is a painfully long line. INANLEY painfull.

but the whole weekend is amazing. all the night shows are a blast, even the bands i didn't like that much.
