Sure, we were taxed without representation, but we had all of that sweet lacy shit coming out of our sleeves.

Don't know about England but is it true that in Italy the whole country will just take off work for a whole month?

Don't they get a whole week off for Easter as well?

Why stop in England? Why not go all the way to Greece, where the world actually began.

By the way, why doesn't the US have siesta? I wouldn't mind a nap right about now.

:)

My sister who, lives in Greece, works a total of 15 hours per week. And in the summer works even less. This, and free healthcare.

Nah it's just that Americans are greedy and workaholics which explains why our children have more problems growing up and the divorce rate is higher.

I wouldn't mind living in France or Italy. I like the culture and I most definitely could eat the food. I hear England is rather expensive housing wise. And I certainly wouldn't have wanted to live there a few hundred years ago, they seemed to cut yer head off way too little a thing(been reading up on Tudor/Elizabethan years so it's stuck in my head).

yeah, Italy is ridiculousy lazy. My mom is from there, and I visited relatives twice. They don't work. Seriously my uncle goes in from 6-10am. Has 10 -3 off for lunch. Goes back works 3-5, and when he gets busy he occasionaly works till 6. Just try to find something open besides places to eat from noon to 3. Absolutely nothing is open. I got sick on a Sunday, which was bad news because only 1 pharmacy for 150,000 people was open. It rotates on which stay open so that they don't have to work on sundays. And they take the whole month of august off.

Yeah, just ask the Mexican army at San Jacinto.

Seriously, I'd rather stay and gather round the liberty tree here. I can do the lacy sleeve thing without actually having to go back there.

London in August is dead

Paris is the same way from Bastille Day through the end of summer.

German, Italian and French workers get about 40 vacation days compared to two weeks for most Americans.

I'm still staying put.

One of my friends is getting married in Cuernavaca at the end of may to a nice guy, a salsa instructor. She currently works 10 hours a week, dances 15 hours a week, and live comfortably and happily. It sort of makes me want to reconsider things . . .

who exactly takes it as a holiday? I have been to a handful of countries in the august month and I ran into no real problems with places being closed and such. maybe I am not understanding...

I know of Greece and Italy doing this but can't tell you about other countries. France perhaps? And Spain?

Most people with office jobs in western europe take august off. Shops and such are still open.

For those of you who wouldn't move overseas, here's a typical day for a European living in the Mediterranean.

Wake up around 8:00.
Go and open the shop at 9:00.
Work until 12:00 and close the shop.
Go home and have lunch.
Sleep until 4:00 (This is a general way of living. Everyone in town does it.)
Wake up, and go to the beach.
Sit on the beach until dark (around 8:00)
Go home, shower, get dressed and go out dancing, drinking, fucking, etc.

Now this is living.
