So, I was putzing around this morning and decided to catch some saturday morning cartoons for nostalgic reasons. So, today I watched an episode of the smurfs. I realize now why my parents never wanted me to watch that show. In this particular episode, Azrael(sp)--Gargamel's cat--got caught in a bear trap. A couple smurfs found her and brought her back to their village. They had a huge debate over whether or not to save the cat because she always chases and terrorizes the smurfs. At one point, the french accented Smurf says, "we cannot have Azrael here. Zat Poosey eeeez a killer."

I nearly fell over I was laughing so hard. What's the deal with the pervs that make these cartoons? Or maybe it's just the audience that's messed up...

I never really associated pussy with ... pussy until I was too old to watch the Smurfs. Might be possible that the writers weren't as perverted as you. Sicko. Seriously though, I caught myself watching Sesame Street last week, and I had to watch the whole episode. Note to self: don't get drunk and watch PBS.

I dunno about the Smurfs, but it's quite possible that "pussy" is another word for "cat".

The other day my 7 yr old son was calling the kitten like this:" Here pussy pussy, come here pussy".

I confess that I wanted to tell him that wasn't a word to use.

Exactly. Even if it's used innocently, it still just sounds wrong. But, based around some of the things I have heard in other cartoons and such, I would say that those who are writing the scripts for these cartoons are not the most honorable in their minds.

That's how I call my girlfriend when I'm feeling randy.

Then again, I haven't had a girlfriend in years. Well, probably just a coincidence.

When is the Smurfs on?? I didn't know anyone still showed this, just like Merrie Melodies/Bugs Bunny cartoons have been relegated to late-night Cartoon Network. I used to love this show, and am embarrassed to confess that I still have my Smurfs sheet set that I loved when I was 6 (Until recently I had the same little twin bed so they had a use, but within the last month have upgraded to a full size...).

On a different note, this reminded me of this time last year... I had a late rehearsal for a recital I was doing, and my clarinet professor gave me ride home so I wouldn't have to walk in the dark. The previous week I had had to take my cat to the emergency vet clinic (nothing too serious, just a Sat. night, so regular office was closed... he got a claw ripped out and was bleeding everywhere). I told her about it a few days before this rehearsal. So on the way home we're chatting about whatever, but then the second she pulls in my driveway, she turns to me and says, completely out of context, "So, how's your pussy doing?" !! I was so taken off-guard that I stared at her for about 10 seconds before I realized that she was asking if my cat was ok. Shows where my mind is!

The Smurfs are pretty subversive if you watch enough episodes and look at it the right way.

I have always sang Steel Pulse's Earth Crisis as:
Smurf Crisis/Papa Smurf is Dead... after a juvenile incident in high school in St. Croix, we had alternate smurf lyrics for the whole song back then.

This whole sentence reminds me that there's a third definition of "pussy."
