it scored really high on meta critic. i've listened to it once and thought it was very lovely. i'd have to let it sink in, though.

I read a positive review on some site. Delusions maybe? Anyway, they gave it an A- and basically said it's Eels best album yet.

It's along those lines - very dark, quiet, for the most part, lots of strings. It's very dense, however. I really haven't been able to get a grip on it yet, but I think it's a big-time grower. Two-discs of stuff is a lot to ingest when it's all pretty quiet and dark like this.

I always found each of the previous Eels albums to be so different from each other, and this one as well. Upon my first listen I must say I do enjoy it and it will probably get better each time.

I am usually not that good at giving extremely descriptive reviews.

i have to admit i've never listened to the eels as a result of not liking that song "novicaine for the soul" or whatever it was.

is that song pretty representative of their sound? or should i check out some other tunes?

the tune they played on Leno last night was tight.
Pretty mellow, but yet touching and beautiful.

anyone know what it was called?

I find "E" extremely annoying. Will this change my opinion? I was dragged to their live show once and hated them.

I like the Eels. 'The Medication is Wearing Off' is one of my favorite songs. I haven't heard the new one yet though.

I am helpful.

heard the single today and liked it. But it still sounded like all the other Eels songs to me. not in a bad way, but in a familiar one.

To me, on the one background listen I took, it sounded like Mutations + Sea Change Beck. Lemur likes it, but he "doesn't have anything to post about." Dick.

I bought it on Tuesday and have listened through a couple of times. It is a lot of material to get through and I think it's all pretty good. I think there's a theme to it all but haven't really figured it out yet. No single song has really grabbed me though so it may end up with most of Eels stuff for me: "like it" don't "love it." Electro Shock has always been my favorite and, at least so far, it looks like it still is.

From this week's Entertainment Weekly :

"Mark Oliver Everett finally delivers the absolute stone masterpiece fans have always known lurked inside his dour heart. Blinking Lights and Other Revelations is ambitious as hell — a two-CD, cradle-to-grave journey through one unlucky man's life. The songs are varied and tremendous: ''Ugly Love'' sounds like Randy Newman with a soul, while ''The Stars Shine in the Sky Tonight'' feels as old and noble as a Stephen Foster standard. Tom Waits and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck stop by, but this is Everett's show all the way, with a measured ascension toward grace that is almost unbearably moving. Grade: A"

In complete agreement with this statement.
In case you're not, pull out "Daisies of the Galaxy" and put 'It's a Motherf**ker' on repeat.

This Eels record really, really surprised me. I took a break from them since Electro-Shock, and this is basically 33 tracks of music that's like the last 3 songs on ESB, i.e. the best songs on the record. There's some faster tracks in there, too, but it's just a good bedroom pop album with some alt-country influences.

Might be my favorite record of the year so far.

On first listen, I really like it. You can tell, it's gonna be a grower.

We don't live in the same house, but we spend half of our time forced into the same 20 feet with a Cat and two chicks. So, yeah, we're, like, part-time lovers.
