I always mention Todd Trainer of Shellac in drummer threads. I know shiite about drumming, but I do know that it sounds like he is pounding the crap out of the kit on Shellac records.

David Bazan. Yeah, Pedro The Lion. Give "Magazine" a listen before you start hatin'.

Jim Eno of Spoon. Best drummer going. Too often obscured by Britt Daniel, who is certainly deserving of praise as a songwriter/guitarist/frontmant, but is not under any circumstances a solo act with a band name. Eno makes this band.

Oh!

How could I have forgotten Interpol's Dave Fogarino?

His musicianship is skillful, elegant, and restrained, which is not something you can say for a good number of (indie-) rock drummers.

Yeh, I like what Eno does, but last time I saw Spoon a friend who's a drummer tagged along and he wasn't impressed at all. We had this discussion after the gig. He just kept saying Eno was okay, but nothing special. Does a guy have to be feckin' Neil Peart and, like, announce his virtuosity in every song before he's considered a great drummer?
