i really like them all, but i would have to say their "best" would have to be their first. and does anyone have any news on the zack de la rocha album that he has been working on for 4 or 5 years now? im hoping it doesnt turn into chinese democracy.

The next two were basically watered down versions of the first...great in their own right, but hardly moved forward musically or even lyrically....live they KILLED!

Never thought they were worthy of all the hype. Can't say I ever heard a song of theirs that I liked.

I only had the first album. Pre CD player ownership so it's in my famed 'dusty cassette drawer' and subsequently I haven't listened to it in a very long time.

i worked on the NC date of that lollapaloza tour that they were on and those guys were dicks.

I can only listen to battle of la, which i quite like.

i had teh "pleasure" of seeing them stand naked with tape over their mouths for 20 minutes at Lollapaloza. what little respect i had for them vanished after that.

was that the ramones/rancid/metallica year? why the fuck did they pull a stunt like that?

kids shell out a shit load of money on tickets/transportation/water to see them, and i bet at least a few kids came JUST to see them . . . so fuck them and the lame message.

i like s/t and battle the best. close call between those two. (battle has more amazing guitar work tho, "mic check", "maria" etc)

People actually like RATM? They made the same album three times, and it wasn't that great the first time.

I listened to Evil Empire a lot during that summer ('96?), and so I voted for it.

That said, I wouldn't really care if this band's entire existence was erased from history. I wish that could be done with a lot of bands. It would clear up the used bins a little and make the good stuff easier to find.

oh yeah i forgot about that! was that when it was over by FDR park?

those guys were always a pain in the ass to philly for various reasons, but largely i think because they think our entire city is made up of the FOP and put Mumia away or something. When they played with Wu-Tang it was one of the most lane-ass protests i've ever seen. Still, I think each of their albums has about 3 songs on it that are great and the rest just wilt my ears.

Edit: oh and about the solo album, don't hold your breath. There was a post about it on one blog or another the other day and basically i think it's been canned.

i think they have a "thing" for philly for Mumia (like you said) and because of the symbolism of all the history and writing of the Constitution and such.

damned haters. why can't they ever focus on the positive side of philly, like the real world house, and that nut who tried to attack the liberty bell a few years ago with a sledge hammer?

i don't really know much about the case, but regardless i always feel bad for his family. No matter what really happened he's been used as a scape goat for ALL police problems and his family has had to listen to years and years of people berating him.

i was so disappointed when Evil Empire came out. just seemed like they had lost their way or something. also, i was no longer an angsty, faux-rebellious teenager in Germany when it was released.
