I am really excited about it. I may just reread the book before I see the movie.

Never read the books, but I am intrigued. Strangely, chase, Mos Def's appearance makes me more curious. Will probably see this next week when I am collossally bored.

I actually am a bit excited about HHGttG. I have read the books a few times, but not to the extent that the certain omission of some things is going to irk me too much. I'm trying to look at it as just another version of the basic story, and the details may not translate too well from the book so I'm okay with some changes to make things work.

But yeah, the plan is to see this Saturday afternoon . . . no towels will be brought, however. (I think I read that this was one of the things left out of the movie, which I have to admit I am going to be sad about if it's true. That's the one thing from this series that I actually do say on occasion and if there are no mentions of always haveing a towel in the movie, people will think I've been making it up all along.)

i've never read any of these either, and i probably won't see the movie because of that, though i'm curious to see how Tim from The Office fares.

and Mos Def has more or less fallen off the charts for me entirely. It used to be he couldn't act but he could rap, then he couldn't rap but he could act. i haven't seen him do any real acting or rapping in several years now. and don't give me that shit about the HBO movie because that sucked, too.

I just recognized him in the preview like two weeks ago. I'm more interested to see this now. I like the book, but the movie definitely looks interesting.

Don't worry - there's towels a go go. I saw part of a 'preview special' thing that I managed to stumble onto on BET of all places.

They showed a couple of shots of Ford fighting with his towel and in particular showed the Vogons running scared. Actually the lead Vogon said "He's got a towel! Run Away! Run Away!" (a la Monty Python).

It sounds like it should be decent enough for all of the Adams fans or at least it sounds like it stays true to the spirit. A lot non-fans will probably be turned off by fact that the special effects are apparently not very special - intentionally. The creative team wanted to make it kinda low-tech and more ridiculous - like the original BBC TV version and like the books kinda felt.

Hopefully I'll be able to go out and see it on Saturday or Sunday. It all depends on my wife's schedule this weekend.

I've only read a couple of reviews so far, but they've been of the "eh" variety.

I've never read the books, but I'm kinda hoping the movie's good - just because the fans of the books have waited sooooo long for a movie to appear. Be a shame if they were really let down.

EDIT : Ebert gave it 2 stars. Uh oh.

My Advanced Placement European History students are taking the test next Friday afternoon, we all plan to go see it together afterwords, all 90 of us, if it hasn't bombed so badly that they've removed it from the theaters by then.

I've been waiting for this movie for years. I too have mixed feelings, but the guys from Hammer And Tongs is directing (I Love Blur's Coffee & TV Video by them) Sam Rockwell will make an excellent Zaphod, and the rest... well... we'll see won't we.

I want to see this but the reviews make it sound pretty mediocre.

Whew - glad the towels are still included. I'd seen someone's review and said towels were out. Now I know he was a lying bastard.

Low-tech an ridiculous? I like that.

I've been waiting until after I've seen it, so the experience isn't ruined by all the things I've forgotten in the many years since I read them. I figure if I forgot them, then they probably weren't such a big deal to begin with, and will just make the re-reading a happier experience. I hope I still find it as goofily fun as I did, what, 15, 17 years ago?
