If there was a thread about this I missed it. Apologies.

Anyone heard the new Springsteen album, and if so, is it ... well, how is it? Can you set me up with it.

Love,
jls

My roommates got it, and I should be getting it from him soon. He really likes it, but I'm not really crazy about the title track. I haven't heard the rest.

I've been listening to Ghost of Tom Joad lately, though, and it's pretty good.

I tend to agree with the village voice review that said it was long, boring, and preachy. But I haven't given it a really good listen.

Much better than The Rising, in my opinion. Less overblown, more stripped down. Songs feel a bit more lived in yet with minimal takes as opposed to forced out and then rehearsed or ProTools'd to death.

I think it is a perfect balance of dark acoustic stuff like Nebraska and Ghost Of Tom Joad and more upbeat fuller songs, not quite as full as his other stuff but keep the pace really well.

The DVD side was pretty much a waste I thought, except for when he spoke about the songs.

Are you and I listening to the same record?!? I seriously question the above statement, and should've known immediately that it was ill-conceived.

Yeah - on first listen, It doesn't remind me as much of "Nebraska" as it does "Red Devil Dawn" by Crooked Fingers...

The songs, in and of themselves, are pretty good, with a few top notch Springsteen cuts mixed in. However, the production stuff (analog keys, strings) just seems so out of place on a lot of this. I'm itchin' to watch the DVD versions on the disc, as well as that storytellers set he recorded a few weeks back...
(also hoping this solo acoustic tour is just that - solo & acoustic)...

Are you sure? I was told that he was taking a few musicians with him, including Danny Federici. I could be wrong.

As for the production, this is new age Bruce. Take it or leave it. The production irks me a bit, but it is pretty well executed. The only album that I'm able to compare this to is "The Rising", particularly based on the production. Exactly why a comparison to "Nebraska" or even "Tom Joad" is completely misguided. The songs, thankfully, aren't as weighty again as his last outing, and his voice still sounds good (by Bruce standards) even if he does sound like a husky black woman on a few tracks ...
