This is probly my album of the year so far as well. It still gets at least two listens a week. I think its their best record as well.

I think they execute what they have always been trying to on this one better; even if you may or may not like the tunes themselves as well.

Which begs the question:

Have you bought your tickets to the Variety show yet?

Radcliffe, that was wonderfully articulated. Dead on.

word. I can't normally speak all that knowinly about music, and I enjoy posts like this, cause rather than saying..."this sucks" or "I like this", which is normally all I have to say...the good people at obner like radcliffe drop some knowledge.

true. seeing spoon play "i turn my camera on" (which is my favorite track off this record) and "the beast and dragon adored" live @ coachella was simply amazing. i'll post a full review later... but i will reiterate that i think britt daniel is fucking genius and it really shows when they play live.

I'm still loving this one right now, I can't wait to see them in June.

I've said it at least a hundred times before, they need to be playing with Wilco. A Ghost Is Born and Gimmee Fiction have so much in common (in a good way, not being derivative of each other) its like they're brother and sister albums.

Haven't listened to the album yet because it's one I know I'll pay money for. I have a question. And please don't think that this is me trying to come off as holier-than-thou or anything.

Of the people who downloaded this album, who plans to buy a copy on the 10th?

I ask it only out of curiosity.

I bought that mysterious used copy, plus I pre-ordered it (with the bonus disc) from Amazon. Then maybe when it shows up in the stores I'll go for the trifecta and buy it again for full retail.

If you pre-order from Amazon, how soon after the 10th should you get it? Or will it come the 10th?

Man, he sounds like John Lennon during this passage... good song.
GREAT RECORD.

Yeh, it's uncanny how much he conjures up Lennon on this album. And what about "They Never Got You" - that muffugga almost sounds like an outtake from Plastic Ono Band.

I just got this yesterday, and as soon I heard the first song this came to mind. I never heard similarities btwn Brit Daniels and Lennon before, but it's striking on this album. Not in an imitating bad way.

I just bought this last night. I'm through the first three tracks and, so far, I really like it. A couple thoughts:

Track 1: I hear major David Bowie influence
Track 3: Bee Gees

Don't know the names of the songs since I just threw the CD in my car stereo this morning on my way to work.

"I Turn My Camera On" does not equal Bee Gees. I love how so many people are picking up so many different influences and having so many different thoughts on the album and individual tracks.

I'm severely pissed because I ordered the album through the band's website instead of Merge and didn't receive the poster. :splode:

Yeah, I should have explained a little more. I hear a definite disco flavor and Bee Gees was the easy association. I think it's a great song but I've never cared for disco or the Bee Gees so my liking it shows I don't think it's a direct rip-off or anything.

This album seems to draw from a ton of different genres while still making sense as an album. I think I'm really going to like it.

I'm on my second listen right now and I think I might just play this a couple of more times today. I'm really, really impressed. I haven't listened to the bonus disc yet, but wow. I'm surprised how groovy 'I Turn My Camera On' is, I wasn't really expecting that.

Actually, I was kind of let down by the bonus disc. The first song "Carryout Kids" is pretty f'n fantastic. But the second song is basically a fuzzed out version of "Was it you?" and then there is the "Sister Jack" and "I Summon You" demos that were available on their website a little while back. Only 1 really new song, but its a great one.

Not bought it yet. Only heard "I Turn My Camera On" and haven't really warmed up to it. Not a fervent supporter, but there's no doubt I'll buy this in the very near future.

I'm curious whether its grown on any of the folks who weren't initial fans. I gave it my 4th or 5th listen today and its still not doing much for me yet. Strange and a bit hypocritical of me to complain given my thoughts that GCT hits you over the head too much with obvious hooks, but nothing is really grabbing me on this one yet.

I will say though that I hear what Radcliffe & Cupato are talking about re: the Lennon influences. Still hoping it will grow on me.
